The sleep of reasoner breeds monsters. (sic)

« on: August 03, 2019, 06:30:50 PM »

What's everyone been up to?

I visited my friend on the west coast, reconnected with my now sober cousin from Florida, helped tear down a scale lighthouse, re-read The Sandman, hired a possible necrophiliac at work, helped my UFO-obsessed son look for space ships, a crazy lady lived out a desire she's harbored for twenty-five years and suckerpunched me in the face with her big ol' 1970s wedding ring, I wrote a collection of stories, met an Appalachian exorcist, got a new minivan, shrug, pretty typical summer.

Y'all?

Went to an orgy, helped make two new door frames for a client, helped install some hanging cabinets.

Sweating all day, taking 4-6 showers every day (and a few more at night), not being able to sleep because of the heat and trying to dodge the sun like a vampire. My brain turns to mush when its hot as I can't funktion properly when its 100F. *edit to add* I almost had to vomit at work last week because the heat made me sick.

Chocolate bars actually melt in my room, and my bottle of iced tea turned hot in less than 2 hours.

I've discovered a delicious recipe for watermelon salad with feta and olives and watched a couple of thunderstorms. The only cool thing so far.

Hot weather is utter misery but autumn is getting closer. Hang in there.

BBQ'd food. That's about it. Bought a pair of binoculars at a yard sale so I can watch hawks circle.

Let's see . . . I did a bunch of book signings, got a serious chemical burn on my leg from gasoline, went to the Gulf Coast and caught crabs (not the lice, the actual little ocean critters).  Found some arrowheads and dinosaur bones, began work on a screenplay based on one of my books, and wrote several chapters of my next book.

Also got addicted to DARK SOULS 2.

Oh yeah, that was some crazy stuff, man, sure to give a certain virgin here a warm fuzzy feeling.

So my friend's mom gets back from a trip she took to Israel and we saw her at church on Sunday and she had some things she wanted to give my daughter, and that week she called me and asked if I'd meet her in this park before work, so I said okay, figuring it was to give me the Israel souvenirs to take home, I pulled up she gets out of her car, I'm not really paying attention, next thing I knew, bam, she socked me a good one in the face and threw a solid punch for her age, tellyawhat.

Blindsided, I had no idea on Earth this was coming and what was even better, she was wearing this big gaudy ring.

She goes, "You can pretend you don't know what that was for but we both know you do."

Annnnnnd she drove off.

I stood there and thought, hmm, actually I don't know because she had so much to choose from dating back to the nineties. I was thinking, um, something to do with her son? Her daughter? Grandson? Having lunch with her first husband's second wife? I mean she could've given me a clue, right?

But the joke was on me because she was just bats**t crazy but later she explained her bi-polar motivations and it halfway made sense and now I know what getting coldcocked feels like, so a happy ending for all in the name of direct experience and science.

It was the second strangest thing that happened to me that morning.

The cure for a DS2 addiction is found in Drangelic.  Cheers

I bought two clarinets on eBay, one that's a struggle to play, the other, a unibody metal type doesn't work.
A friend gave me a third one that's in worse shape than the other two.
I'm supposed to see a friend of my parents on Tuesday to see if ha wants to restore one of them for me.
Also blew $80 an a Mitchell MS200 double cutaway B brand new from the scratch & dent section.

Had to buy a new 2stroke weed whacker back in June, & this time got a doo-dad so I can start it with my electric drill, vice pulling that cord for hours, & back in the spring got a brush cutter attachment for it.
Also been trying out this 'non toxic' weed killer I read about, using vinegar, Epsom salt & dish washing liquid...
Started out bring those privets down to size, then spraying the ones that grow back, and ripping out the stumps with a broad fork that I've had for a few years....

Bought a new oven.  Painted all the window sills/frames and door frames inside and outside.  Met a badmovies.org member in person (bushma).  Gonna undergo cosmetic surgery later this summer.  Gotta order a new credit card and maybe buy a new dishwasher.  Finishing up an episode guide.

My son turned 12 two weeks ago so I took him and his brother to a real live honest to God '80s style retro video arcade and spent the afternoon playing tons of pinball and crushing the high scores on Galaga and Burger Time!

Had a road trip with some friends to Chicago a few weeks back.  We went to one of the highest ranked mini-golf courses in the USA.  Spent a full day at the Field Museum (Chicago's HUGE Natural History Museum.)  Followed by and Architectural Cruise through the city.  Spent a day at G-Fest (the largest kaiju themed convention in the USA)  And finally, went to Shedd Aquarium.  A pretty fun weekend.

Earlier in June- We went to Origins, a gaming convention in Columbus Oh.    Its like GenCon Indy but smaller.
