From what I can gather COPPA is f**king over channels aimed at children. Y'know, the kinda things that run Peppa Pig 24/7.
I'm guessing this has to do with some of that Elsagate s**t where YouTube did nothing about videos aimed at kids that weren't ACTUALLY appropriate for kids.
It's worth noting that COPPA isn't a new thing. It's been around since '98. YouTube just got sued because they completely ignored its existence
and ran targeted ads on videos for children. So now they're pushing the responsibility of declaring if your content is child friendly or not onto YouTubers.
I'm not super worried about it. A friend of mine was concerned that this meant a new algorithm would auto-flag videos aimed at children and possibly take them down.
He had just gotten into the show
Hazbin Hotel and was worried that YouTube was going to flag it as being child friendly just because it's a cartoon (
It's not child friendly whatsoever).
It seems like as long as you set your videos to the appropriate setting it'll be fine. Although that kinda invokes imagery of Jews smearing sheep's blood on their doors so
God won't kill their first born son.
As far as I can tell infractions will be investigated by the FTC and not by YouTube itself. If the FTC doesn't see your video as breaking the rules they'll leave you alone.
But if you ARE trying to exploit children you will in deep s**t. So, I wouldn't get super worried about COPPA right now.
