A complacent, uninformed electorate will always be a threat to a republic. Honestly, when I see the large-scale embracing of misinformation combined with the sheer ignorance among people about what they think they know concerning the operation of government and governmental affairs, it leaves me wondering if most people deserve the vote.
Personally I think voting should be a privilege earned through various forms of national service, not a near universal right.
Ahh look, a fascist is among us. You must be a Democrat, echoing Dred Scott and all: “separate, but equal.”
ER? A democrat?
That's the first time anyone ever called her that!
Me and ER don't see eye to eye on many issues, but she's not a fascist!
Or a Democrat!
Why, thank you, RC!
I've never been registered with any party, but I was brought up among Democrats, and all the rest of my family and many of my friends still are to various extents supporters of Democrats (though maybe not as strongly as they once were, it seems like), and until well in this century I primarily identified with what the Democrats were doing and still don't like the Republican Party enough to ever call myself a Republican.
If I have one overarching policy it's that people should do what they want to do insofar as it doesn't violate the Golden Rule.
Also to one day finish Joyce Carol Oates'
Bellefleur. Been trying to get to the end of that since I took it off my boyfriend's shelf in 1996 with the promise, "I'll bring it right back." Hell of a book to stick with....
