I can only think of movies with hippies that are GOOD like VANISHING POINT or LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH... not exactly "hippie" or "good" I love both of those movies.  CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS has a kinda hippie actors troupe as the cast...

Josie's Castle is a 1971 American dramedy film starring Fright Night creator Tom Holland, Star Trek alum George Takei, and Holly Mascott.

The film was released under a variety of titles and distributors tampered with it, adding additional nudity and sex scenes so they could market it as a soft-core sexploitation flick. The original version has never been issued on home video and the soundtrack was only released as a promo.


Story
Josie Eliot (Holly Mascott), Leonard Robbins (Tom Holland) and Ken Tanaka (George Takei) are all 20-somethings going through divorces, so they decide to shack up together in a cheap house that's slated for demolition. Josie and Leonard quickly begin having a torrid affair, much to the chagrin of Ken, who also has eyes for Josie.

Things begin going south for the new couple when they host a Renaissance-themed party and meet neighbor Bartholomew, who carries on an open flirtation with Ken and tells Josie that Leonard is gay. Initially she doesn't believe it, but Josie begins having doubts as Leonard drifts further away from her. Ken sets her straight with the truth: Leonard's trying to hide the fact that he's dealing drugs, and she finds this news irksome.

Meanwhile, Ken discovers his ex-wife is pregnant and plans to give up the baby for adoption. Heartbroken, he urges her to let him raise the child.

Life comes crashing down on the trio when Leonard's thrill-seeking shenanigans land all three of them in the slammer, and they soon find themselves drifting their own separate ways.

In 1991, L.D. Video Productions issued "California Fever" on VHS. Somewhat eschewing Mascott and Holland (known only as "Tom Fielding"), the cover prominently features Takei.

In 2009, Secret Key Motion Pictures issued it on DVD as part of a four-pack titled "Skin in the 70's." The box/label boasts the title "Teenage Divorce" (though the print itself says "Teenage Divorcee"). Although the picture is sharper than the "California Fever" video, there are color distortions with prominent scratches and dirt visible throughout, and 30 seconds of mostly-minor footage has been lopped off at the reel changes. Packaged with legitimate skin-flicks "Blue Summer," "Summer School Teachers" and the abridged version of the X-rated "Sometime Sweet Susan," most reviewers have cited "Teenage Divorce" as the weak link in the set.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack album with music composed by Jimmie Haskell and lyrics by Jeremy Kronsberg was issued on vinyl as a promotional "Demonstration Album" in 1972 by Mascott Records (through Producer's Distributing Corp.), with lyrics on the back, brief liner notes about the composer and a declaration that the music won a Gold Medal Award at 1971 The Atlanta Film Festival. There are a few minor typos as well as lyrics for a verse in "House of Mirrors" which was omitted, an inaccurate length is cited for the 90 second instrumental "Stoned," and Jeremy Kronsberg is credited as Graeme Kronsberg on the back cover. The singers and musicians were not credited, and the song which opens the album, "Short Way 'Round," was cut from the versions of the movie which were released on home video.

Interestingly, the cover was pressed with the title "Grass Is Always Greener," but instead of scrapping the covers when the film was retitled, a sticker was placed over it which reads "Josie's Castle." Copies without the stickers pop up infrequently, though the label of the accompanying record bears the "Josie's Castle" name. There are a few discrepancies between the track listing on the jacket and the LP. The jacket denotes "The Grass Is Always Greener (The Party Rock)," the LP says "Josie's Castle (Theme Music - Party Rock);" and the final track is denoted as "Call It a Night" on the sleeve and "Sleep Tight, Josie" on the record. Generally the album sells in the $20-$30 range but, due to the rarity, eBay bidders have been known to push it into the triple-digits.

In addition to the 12", a 7" 45 single was also issued featuring "Let the Music Play a Little Longer (The Bicycle Song)" and the so-called "Theme" ("Party Rock"). A black-and-white copy of the "Josie's Castle" poster adorns the left side of the 45 sleeve, with the words "Award Winning Music From the Motion Picture" centered on the right side. The 45 very seldom surfaces for sale and it's often missing the cover.

children shouldn't play with Dead things (1972) is a fantastic title for a film but the film is WOW was it bad i borrowed the VHS from a friend years ago and it was one of those movies that was so bad that i think i lost years of my life watching it.  i love Bob clark but one wonders what the remake would have been like? he was working on  one before he died actually and after he died it went away thankfully

you bet, i love it! i got it at suncoast along with a bunch of other freebies back when i was still selling on ebay and would buy purely for the title. i can't remember the others from that shopping trip, since i sold them, but we kept CSPWDT and still have it, lol!

if i'm the only one that didn't like it i can live with that, Suncoast yeah my brother was a manager of one for a good number of years actually. i miss it too but the only thing i hated was how overpriced the place was.

  it's okay, penny, lol! i don't like batman movies, and my bestie gives me heck for that.
  did your brother's store not do the sale days and the coupons and rewards? regular prices, yeah, they were high, but i bought so much stuff there that i got TONS of freebies. back then, ebay was still one big family, and people would send me find requests that i made a small profit on, and BIG profits on the free stuff, plus it expanded my collection in a big way. some of the stuff i have is worth a bundle now simply because it's first press, or for the cover art.

 yes they had sales and if memory serves if i went when he was working i also got to use his discount as well i miss those days.  but they are still expensive for a lot of stuff for example some stuff never went on sale such as Doctor Who or Dark Shadows  for one thing.  i didn't always go there when he was working either and i did go to Suncoast to ones he wasn't even working at as well. in 2004 when we had that blackout i was out with a friend and we were on our way in the mall walking to Suncoast when the power went out. it went out like nationwide i think?  i forget the reason but it was one hot mofo of a day that day she we ate the ice cream that was melting my friends Freezer to keep cool.

you don't like the Batman films? okay not everyone does that's fine my brother also isn't much of a super hero fan but the christopher reeve superman films he loves we grew up on those. i see someone mentioned Psyche Out (1968) yeah i think it was last year to take a guess i watched that and WOW was it awful though it was the 1st movie i saw that Jack did during the 60's anyways and before Easy Rider where he was pretty good in it actually and i loved his long hair in a ponytail a look he can no longer pull off though and even if he could he's in his 80's now.  yeah that film was just plain Terrible it's always odd to see a Young Dean Stockwell as an adult anyways seeing him as a child actor i'm used to cause i've seen a few of his movies as a kid.

but i'm used to the Dean Stockwell like he looked in the 80's.  i think he's a year older than Jack actually.

Not a hippie movie per se, and it is still new, but Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019) still counts as a bad movie on a lot of fronts even though I enjoy the heck out of it. Quentin Tarantino makes a good use of the stereotypical hippie during the last act; the home invasion scene that was supposed to be the murder of Sharon Tate until Tarantino changed history on us and made a hilarious botch out of the whole situation. Watching hippie scum get savaged by a pit bull before getting torched by an antique flamethrower was very satisfying.

my folks hated it i liked it but it's one of those films that i will never watch again cause i didn't love it that much, The Hateful Eight as well (2015) i liked that until about the last half hr or so when i think it fell apart i don't plan on seeing that one again either.

there's one hippie movie i just can't think of the name of it that MSTK3000 did that i thought was really painfully bad

Yeah, the Netflix Extended Edition is actually much worse than the full length feature because they made the Extended Edition episodic, and I can't tell what was actually "extended" about it other than the credits in between "episodes". I like The Hateful Eight (2015) too but yeah, you're right, it loses its clever appeal once everybody starts getting killed off and I thought that Tarantino played it safe right at the end because it was pretty predictable at that point. Great performances by everybody in the movie though.
