Chester Bennington of the band Linkin Park hung himself a few years back.  It hit me hard.  Was a huge fan.  Often sung about his addictions and mental illness.  Seemed happy, had a family, fame.

Chris Cornell, of Soundgarden and Audioslave.

Okay, sorry I do not know this person's name, but the topic reminded me of a Ripley Believe it or Not I once heard as a child, and this famed court seer in Persia predicted the date of his own death, and when it did not happen, he killed himself to protect his reputation. That's a work ethic there, folks.

I'm not famous but I was considering this three weeks ago.

The upside of what would happen if I were to go this route is that Mom would be financially independent and have care for the rest of her days.

The downside: I don't think I have the guts to do it.

There are a LOT more downsides than that. For one thing, you'd make a lot of people here sad.  Bluesad

Trev- think of life as a bad movie, it may suck- but you have to stick it out to see how it ends.

Have you ever thought, Trevor, that one reason your mother is doing better than expected is that she wants to be there with you, and if you were gone you'd take away her main reason for fighting as hard as she has against this affliction? Im sure she values you above money or anything it could provide for her. She needs you out there in this world.

No mother would EVER choose to outlive her son.

Trevor, every person I've known who survived a suicide attempt, and every person I've ever heard of who survived one has spoken of deep regret once the attempt was undertaken. Life is short, death long, and there's so much worth living for, not the least of which being alive gives us chances to help others. Don't let this present darkness overtake you, because it won't last and there will be better days ahead of you.

You're loved. You're liked. You have value.

I hope you hang on. Please do.

Mom is sicker than I have been told: she is also in the beginning stages of Alzheimers. Bluesad Bluesad

Sorry to hear that. I know I make it sound easier than it is but you should get your mom into a nursing home with a special Alzheimer's disease care unit, ASAP.
When my father was diagnosed with Alzheimers we tried to take care of him ourselves for as long as we possibly could. We went to support group meetings trying to understand the disease better, and to be better prepared, but there is only so much one can do if you have a job and a family of your own.
He started to leave the house and couldn't find his way back. Police picked him up wandering the streets many times. He flooded our apartment on a few occasions leaving us with hefty cleaning bills and damages. Because of the disease my father was suffering from anxieties. We had to change his clothes and bathe him several times a day because he peed himself. He trashed his room a few times. Literally taking it apart. He destroyed at least three TV sets. He insisted on remembering things and places that weren't real. Many times we drove him to his imaginary places just to prove him wrong, but one should never argue with a person suffering from Alzheimers. Huge mistake.
He thought his parents were still alive. He would open his bedroom window and scream, causing confused neighbors to call the police. He started to sexually hit on his own daughters. He couldn't remember where he was. Many times he cried because he sensed something was wrong with him. My dad went through hell, but so did we.

When we finally put him into a nursing home things got better for him thanks to proper care and medication.

Try to seek professional help from supporting groups if possible. Speaking of experience, no one can do this alone.
