What's your take on cats? Love them? Hate them?

I like both dogs and cats, but I prefer the latter. Possibly, I find the personalities differences between those who like cats or dogs more (or especially those who hate cats more and oh boy do they tend to have a whole grab bag of personality disorders) fascinating than the animals themselves (but that's a discussion for another day.

I did read a recent study on the behaviour of cats and it concluded they are intelligent enough to know what we are doing, but just don't care. Also, cats have apparently evolved their cries to sound more like an upset human child and thus more likely to elicit a response from people.

That's interesting. I pretty much grew up with cats and they were mostly "normal". Cats these days do things I've never seen our cats do, and behave almost, well, human like? it seems. Makes sense with the evolving. I'm sure one day they'll take over the world  TeddyR

Cats are cool. Admire them no end. I've had so much bad luck living with them though that I've grown almost superstitiously leery of ever getting another. I think I'm a dog type.

Home is where the cat is.

I mean, I like dogs, I love having a dog in the yard.  But for house pets, I much prefer cats.  We have three of them.

Weird is a subjective concept. To cats, feline behavior is perfectly normal. Also when it comes to comparing weird to weird, I doubt in its prime Jersey Shore ever averaged five million cats a week taking time away from their lives to watch it. Fifteen-love, unweird cats of the world.

I'm prejudiced against cats because I'm allergic to them. I've always tried to stay as far away from them as possible. I love dogs, though.

I love cats.
My cat will be 12 years old in June.  Though it's been over a year I had thought he's a goner and he is weak, skinny, old... I am pleased to report he is still here.  Right now.  In the secretary chair.  Wheezing.   Smile

You all know what team I bat for.

They are an endless source of entertainment and joy for me.  Even if they don't reciprocate my affection.

Though cats can be dog-like, they don't think like dogs.  My cat follows me around the way a dog of mine did.  He is very different than my Babe was, yet just as devoted.  She was always sitting on me.  He jumps in my lap often.  But he does not care to stay long and prefers my desktop (like right now) or the floor at my feet.

my cat (a birman) sounds exactly like a baby crying when he's meowing to come indoors. that's the only time he ever makes that sound though, he does 'normal' meows too.

he also loves finding any excuse to do a flying barrel-roll when he's playing. it's hilarious

I once read cats spend their whole waking life with their brain receptors essentially being bombarded with information, which is possibly why they're so eccentric in behaviour (and also why they sleep so much)
