Most of you will have heard that the SA born director of Hardware and Dust Devil, Richard Stanley, has been accused of gender based violence towards his one time partner and girlfriend Scarlett Amaris, the co-writer of Color Out Of Space.

I know the man and am shocked by these allegations: he is no more capable of GBV than I am, which is to say not at all. I am so f*****g sick of this cancel culture environment where, if you are in the public eye, you are targeted with crap like this (guilty or not) and your career and life are ruined, even if you are found to be innocent.

No, this man baiting and cancel culture BS must come to an end and quickly.  Hatred

I don't think GBV has anything to do with cancel culture.

" Gender Based Violence?" I never heard of it.  In his movies? If your going to do that- you will eliminate most horror films ever made.
How many times has the monster carried a man. Monsters carry girls all the time. I don't care for so called "cancel culture". It's censorship.

Not in modern horror movies. They may rip them appart but carrying girls has been "canceled" some time ago, except in the 2005 King Kong remake.

It is after all 2021, and not 1971  Wink

So they can murder them, but not carry them.
That's backward.
In films, writing, and art, I don't think anything should ever be canceled.

Times do change, that's why you don't see boobs in horror movies anymore.

Gotta chime in supporting what others said here, which is on the side of free expression. Ironic how the very people who would condemn the Spanish Inquisition and Nazism ignorantly imitate the censorship mentality of both those things. Western culture is going through a dark time now in terms of the stifling of ideas and speech. I think I will try to see one of this man's movies just to show my opposition to efforts to control the creativity of others.

Thanks for calling attention to this, Trevor.

My point is I know the man, almost a decade already and he is no more capable of GBV than I am: also, in his films (which are violent), women are almost always the victors, not the victims.

In both DUST DEVIL and HARDWARE women are the hero's in those films.

It seems pretty simple- if you don't like it, don't look at it.
I read Mein Kampf. Didn't turn me into a nazi.  It's not what you see or read , it's about if your smart enough to process it for what it is. Mein Kamphf. I read it- and lots of folks did. We read the same words. Some folks agreed with this raving lunatic, and others didn't, of course. But enough did to put this rabid scumbag into power....and now I'm just babbling.  Bluesad

What's that saying? I really don't know, I'm a doctor not a philosopher, Jim!

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".
Tell me about it. I used to get drunk and arrested almost every year for about 10 years. Maybe more.
For the same stupid s**t. Which was the destruction of public property.

If you want to fly a f**king nazi flag in your yard- go ahead. I don't think you'll have many folks at your next BBQ. But to have it fly on public property- I don't think so.
But otherwise- it just seems stupid and useless. I mean- if your not f**ked up already a movie is not gonna f**k you up.

Most of what I said makes no sense, as usual, but I think I made some kinda point.

I've never quite understood analyzing violence anyway. It's one thing to eviscerate someone as long as.... What? You do it with unbiased intent?

Heck that makes Patrick Bateman a zen murderer, since he killed exactly the same number of men as women, and even added a child to his slaughterfest which shows he was not about ABV: adult-based violence.

He was totally woke.

^ Actually- Patrick Batemen never killed anyone at all. Remember the ending?
It was all in his head.

Maybe, but the book was more ambiguous than the movie, leaving some doubt, but I think the fact Bateman showed up with bloodstains in the later novel Glamorama, and then the whole incident in a fourth B.E.E. novel he was in, Lunar Park, seems to suggest at least some of what he did was real, maybe all of it. One way or the other at the very least he was one messed-up Yuppie. (Though he was played off as almost normal, even responsible, in The Rules of Attraction.)
