You know, if the homosexual community can appropriate the words "gay" and "queer" and "drag" I think middle school boys should be allowed to reclaim the completely non-sexual word "fag." It's just too much a part of their culture to call one another fag as in "dumbass" to see it slide away from them just because mean people have applied it as a gay slur. Eleven to fourteen year olds are losing childhood already, do they have to say goodbye to such a beloved putdown?

Is n****r a beloved put down too?   I don't think it's cool to use any term as a put down. Though I do it as well.

Actually, yeah, n****r does seem to be a beloved put down. You hear black people use it to other black people all the time, and they say the word belongs to them, so maybe in that context fag belongs to middle school boys and not the rest of us. Be scared of a concept, not a word that can have multiple meanings. Don't prick your finger/ don't finger your prick. It's all tiresome and silly. I'd  worry about hypocrites more than bigots.
