I just watched a documentary about the Norwegian Black Metal scene, and I saw El Misfit (aka Dead)!

These folks are some f**ked up people! Burnt down churches, killed people- all sortsa s**t. One band member of MAYHEM found the frontman Dead- well- dead. He blew his brains out with a shotgun. So the guy who found his sorry ass took a picture his bloody corpse and used it as an album cover!
Some sick f**ks, there. I am of Norwegian heritage and f**ked up- but that's just gone.
Oh yeah- the music is just too apes**t for even me! And I listen to Fear and the Germs!

My friend might be right that millennials will inherit the world, but I am pretty sure Gen Xers will just kick their arse and take it back.

Yeah, really, we could just use loudspeakers to play offensives jokes at their armies and they'd melt away.

I like the black metal stuff because it's metal but it's different.

I like black metal because it sounds like a Viking with an enlarged prostate sitting on a sharp rock.

I don't like black metal. It's stupid as f**k. They seem to be a bunch of Norway Nazis dressing up for Halloween. There's a big Nationlist menatility to it all.

I just read a story Steve Martin wrote called "Lolita at 50" and it imagined Lolita as a rich, spoiled, much-married southern California wife who pretty much snapped her fingers and got men to do anything she desired.

I'm no expert on the source material, which I only read once, but my take was less that Lolita was a goddess in human form, but rather the book was about Humbert Humbert's singular obsession with someone that we were given hints was not really seen in the same golden light by the rest of the world. I thought Martin's take that Lolita was able to live glamorously by exploiting an instant attraction all men had to her was a misunderstanding.

Did I goof or did he?

Your take is closer to the original but I haven't read Martin's take so I don't know for sure what he was aiming at. The idea could be that because HH (and another character) was obsessed with her L grew up learning to manipulate men. This sometimes happens to women who were molested; they grow up to become promiscuous and use their sexuality to get what they want from men.

I have the sad feeling that the current situation will only end with large parts of Gaza levelled and a lot of more or less innocent people maimed or dead.

Happy Columbus Day! Without him:

There'd be no BMDO....

John Ford would have had to find a different movie genre....

There'd be lots more bison poop scattered across Nebraska....

Millennials would be kvetching about genocide in a different language....

The Chinese would've done it all eventually....

And the Aztecs would've kept ritually dry-drowning hundreds of children a year.

Here's to the spirit of exploration!
