The sleep of reasoner breeds monsters. (sic)

Hitchcock's first film is available in full on YouTube, where I watched it. A tale about Jack the Ripper, whose murders were still in living memory at the time this movie was made, famous for incorporating a glass ceiling to overcome the limitations of silent movies and reveal the title character pacing over the heads of the family below. More of a novel curiosity than a riveting tale, The Lodger still holds the attention while showcasing an important work in cinematic history.

This blu-ray has been in my Amazon "save for later" list for a few months. I bought a few of the older/less famous Hitchcock movies (Number 17, Murder!, Mary, The Paradine Case, Under Capricorn), but The Lodger didn't make the first cut (along with a few others). I'll probably end up getting the rest in 2023.

In 2010 I got a multi-disc pack of old Hitchcock movies, mostly his pre-Hollywood films, and was surprised by how he did so much brilliant work long before he was a household name.
