The Future of the Halloween Franchise

Exec producer Malek Akkad has already heard multiple pitches (formal and informal) about where to take the Halloween franchise next. But nothing is set in stone and any ideas will need to be shopped around to new studios/distributors. Blumhouse is out. TV series is on the table.

The 2018-2022 Blumhouse reboot trilogy ended with two duds. I fear the next step will actually be a TV series, though Michael in space is also long overdue 

or should they lay Michael to rest?

I loved the first two movies. I even enjoyed the Rob Zombie remake. I felt that compared pretty well the the original.

I wish theyd let the series due though.

First and third ones are the only ones I have any interest in.

PART 1 : obviously classic but I rarely watch it.

PART 2 : underrated. Bit more popcorny but very solid

PART 3 : not sure where I stand on this one tbh. weird, a bit creaky, but memorable

PART 4 : Swing and a miss…out of all the sequels I feel like this one has the most potential to capture the essence of the original and take it in a good direction, but it just… doesn’t.

PART 5 : demented and good fun. Can understand the bad press it gets tho

PART 6 ‘The Curse Of…’ : a random anonymous slasher with Michael Myers in it.

PART 7 ‘H2O’: no matter how many times I watch this one I cannot remember a thing about it. Most recent rewatch was about 4 months ago

PART 8 ‘Ressurrection’: couldn’t stand it on first watch. Have grown fond of it since. Ridiculous and cheesy, busta rhymes is a funny dude

couldn’t get into the Rob zombie ones at all, and only seen the first of the recent reboots, which I thought was overblown and average

Anywhere they go with it now will just seem arbitrary.

Ideally Mike could take a 20 year vacation before another (inevitable) reboot. Unfortunately, that's not how commodities work, is it? Akkad obviously wants or needs to keep churning out more HALLOWEEN media as frequently as possible before he dies. It's not what's good for the I.P. or for us fans, but hey, there ain't no stoppin' capitalism.......

this is true however more films have probably cashed in on HALLOWEEN than it's cashed in on itself...

- and that's without even considering the whole bunch of films that have got 'Halloween' in the title as a desperate eyecatching  attempt to link themselves to it

I swear, every time a new one comes out, the trailer makes everyone go "Wooo hoo! This looks great! The movie's gonna kick ass!"

...then they see the movie and go "Ehhh, that sucked, but.... they'll fix it in the next one."

I've always been in the camp of the direction SHOULD have went the way of Halloween III: Season of the Witch with the anthology format. Every other attempt has been a mess with a stupid curse, Myers having a baby with his niece, Myers being beaten up by Busta Rhymes, edge lord Rob Zombie hillbilly origin story and "Evil Dies Tonight!".

With that being said if they eventually reboot it again, I insist Myers look like this:

The Alien, Predator, and Terminator movies all suffer the same way.  

I'm fine with whatever they do, I just wish they'd stop trying to reboot it or rewrite Mike's history.  Just let him go around killing people.  We don't need another origin story for the guy.

Actually, now that I think about it, what if they did some kind of connected anthology movie like Trick R Treat and Micheal Myers was one of the stories?  Think that would work?

i've also read that Quentin Tarantino was slated to direct the one which ended up as 'The Curse Of...' and when it didn't work out he re-purposed the treatment he had, and turned it into NATURAL BORN KILLERS instead
