The post-apocalypse thread made me think of this. Can we compose a list of movies that depict a bleak future, in which society has followed the wrong path?

Off the top of my head, I'd list:

Logan's Run
Brave New World
1984
Zardoz
Fahrenheit 451
The Running Man
Demolition Man (happiest dystopia I've ever seen)
Escape from New York (and LA)
Death Race 2000

Haven't most future films followed the wrong path? Well..with the exception of more dazzling images like "the fifth element". Logans run..definately. I'm nearing carosel myself. What was that Rutger Hauer film where in the future they play on these teams that mame the hell out of eachother.

The Time Machine (original i guess, i haven't seen the new one nor want to
Minority Report  (a future where merely an accusation can put you in cryo for life and apparently there are no privacy laws)

I'd also add Gattaca and The handmaid's Tale to the list.

My friend Chris has decided that the Star Trek universe is actually a dystopia, rather than the near-utopia it pretends to be; this explains all of the insane or seditious admirals.

Did anyone mention Metropolis? I suppose both the Fritz Lang classic and the more recent anime feature portray dystopias. Also, Things to Come could be considered a dystopia film or possibly even post-apocalyptic.
