Imagine a "Spawn" clone with much less action, shot in Barcelona with much less money than desirable, with a really weak script and a main actor closer in style to Jim Carrey than to Michael Jay White. Add some nudity and hard rock soundtrack.

I rented this to inaugurate my brand new DVD player, and, well, avoid it. Although I admit watching a local TV host dressed (when she was dressed, that is) as a dominatrix was almost worth the cost of the rental. The audio comentary by director Brian Yuzna was funny, too. At least I understood why the movie was that bad.

I thought it was okay. It had good cinematography and set design. The only really bad part is Faust's costume-it was really cheap and it looked silly. His horns bent like rubber on a regular basis. Good doses of nudity and gore, though, and I suppose it's a precursor to the awesome Dagon.

Yeah, well, this was the first movie by the Fantastic Factory, the studio that came to made both "Arachnid" and "Dagon". Probably what really annoyed me was the hard rock soundtrack and the too fast pace to hide the low budget. I can even admit that I laughed my lungs out with the SM session and its improbable results. Guess Yuzna needs to read more Freud.

Everybody just seems to hate this movie, despite Brian Yuzna having put so much time and care into it,as well as making it into a heavily dark and abundently gory celluloid outing.
Perhaps if Jeffrey Combs would have played Faust, and Stuart Gordon would have directed, would this have then turned out to be a much better movie, even though I'll highly take it over that "Scream"/"Blair Witch" crap anyday.

As an avid fan of the Faust comics, my first thought upon learning of the Faust movie was "somebody really's gonna film THIS ?"

Sadly, they did exactly, what I feared.
The story was whittled down to a streightforward "freak takes revenge"-arc, the chic they cast for Jade was a mistake and the endling was really weak compared to the comics.

But considering budget and all, I still consider it a good try.

C- for effort I'd say.

So much time? According to him, he shot the whole thing in six weeks. If he had been working on it more time before shooting (maybe it's that what you mean), then he is more to blame for the result, because the script was really weak, and practically all the cast was unappropiate.
