Okay, so I'm not into anime too much, but I did go through a period when I was 16-17 (about 4-5 years ago) when anime was very hard to come by in the U.S., and when the Sci-Fi used to show movies at 9 in the morning.  Those were the days.  Now anime's everywhere, which is a good thing and a bad thing.

Anyways, I recently went back and watched the classic Fist of the North Star and remembered why I used to like anime in the first place.  Movies like FotNS are pure escapism at its best.  More action than you can shake a stick at.  So I recently went out and got Ninja Scroll, which is technically considered to be a good movie.  Same goes for Vampire Hunter D, which is also good.  But I also picked up M.D. Geist I and II and promptly discovered the amount of hatred that a lot of anime fans have towards this movie.  We're talking Michael Bay amounts of hatred here.  What gives?  I mean, the movie was about a one man gang that pretty much went around destroying everything.  Yeah, there was no plot, but for mindless entertainment, you just can't beat it.  Sometimes you just have to watch a mindlessly entertaining movie.  M.D. Geist fit the bill perfectly.  So that's my pick for the best bad anime movie.  Same goes with FotNS, which some people argue is actually a good movie.

What would you guys say is the best bad anime movie?  Whether it's the usual one man army stuff (FotNS, M.D. Geist), or any other genre?

Well, any of the "DBZ" movies are crap. The four "Peacock King" movies are god awful. Same goes for "Grappler Baki".

Then it's a "Either-You-Hate-It-Or-Love-It" thing with "X" and "End Of Evangelion." I loved "EoE" but didn't care for" X."

Yuck, "M.D. Geist."  Neat art at times, when they don't mess up drawing people, but really not such a good anime.

"Crystal Triangle" cracks me up.  It turns out that God is a blue grub (that also gets squished soon after the people meet him).

See finally someone agrees with me stupid friends some of the good one are mabey Street Fighter Alpha. But I'd rather watch all the Cowboy Bebop episode, Jin Roh The Wolf Brigade, Trigun, all Gundam crap and Dual!. Most Anime Movies suck though especially one's based on show's and games.

I can only think of good ones (I tend to forget the bad ones), such as the first "Dominion: Tank Police", "Alita" (one of my favourites) and "Golgo 13" (This one is ultra-violent).

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

I'm going to have to say Gundam: Char's Counterstrike. I hated, HATED that girl from Earth and the commander's kid.

It looks to me that I'm the only one who liked Char's Counterattack.

But you know, Gundam's getting old anyway.

Hmm. Most bad anime takes itself waaay too seriously for me to really enjoy it on a mindless entertainment level. I guess my favorite would have to be one with the very Japanese name Odin: Photon Space Sailer (sic) Starlight . It may just be me, but I don't think those words quite fit together.
Anyway, it's about a bunch of people who sail a schooner through outer space, in search of the land of Odin, which is gaurded by a man named Asgard (And yes, in Norse mythology Odin refers to a god and Asgard refers to the place where he lives). A bunch of stuff happens, and everything is really sparkly. I mean, REALLY sparkly.

Things I learned from this movie: If you are visiting an alien space station, bring sunglasses.

Most people would probably find the whole thing insufferably dull, but I have a soft spot for crappy eighties vintage anime. Another cruddy entry in that genre is Lensman. The creators of Lensman decided to drop most of the source material (A book series by E. E. "Doc" Smith) because it wasn't enough like Star Wars. The story is that a bunch of goofballs move from alien encounter to alien encounter with little rhyme or reason.
The best part comes near the end, when the alien overlord kidnaps the hero's girlfriend and then tells him to step into a teleportation ray so the two of them can meet and fight. Now, the hero has knowledge of how to stop the alien fleet built into him, so if he dies the civilised universe is doomed. Nonetheless, he just goes ahead and steps into a mysterious ray that the evil overlord says will transport him to the evil homeworld. Now, he ha no proof of this. The evil overlord could teleport him into deep space, or just send down a laser beam and say it was a teleport ray. But he doesn't do any of this. The ray does exactly what he said it would. Frankly, I'm not sure who was stupider, the bad guy or the good guy.

But what do you do when it won't shut up? And would you really want your hand making comments on EVERYTHING you do? :)

 Good movie though.
