Nope, I'm not talking about the 1998 Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderick, I'm actually thinking of the much less noticed Reptilian  I was watching it the other day on SciFi and I was struck by how many simularities between this movie and a lot of the normal asian Kaiju movies there were.  Start of, the monster's name was "Yonggary".  The basic premise of a long dormant monster is awakened and controlled by aliens who try to use said monster to conquer the humans.  The humans fight against the monster before realizing that the aliens are controlling it, and then work to cut off the alien control, at which time another monster, also controlled by the aliens, shows up to fight Yonggary.  The whole "alien controlled kaiju" aspect reminded me of a lot of Godzilla movies. Also for some reason, the scene where they mobilize the missle launchers reminded me a lot of very similar 'mobilize the defense forces' scenes from a lot of older movies.

All in all, it had a very strong resemblance too, or usage of plot devices from, more traditional kaiju movies.

Actually, looking at IMDB, I see that this was a South Korean production.  Hmm...never would've thought it.

Reptilian looked like a Full Moon Movie on what they would call a mega-budget.  My son couldn't even finish it, so I had to watch it alone, and he watched Kraa! The Sea Monster three times in a row with me.  Sheesh.  Guess the movie needed a talking cheeseburger in it.  It wouldn't have hurt.

The whole military, government, competition. conspiracy plot was mind-bogglingly stupid; very poorly written and the actors seemed embarrased.

I did like the fact that the monster figured out that it could duck.  He seemed a fari amoutn smarter than the pilots attacking him.
