Examples:

The Fly 2 (1989)- Terrible movie, hated it, but the creature was absolutely awesome, even put the one in Cronenberg's original to shame (Not to say the fly in that movie wasn't great too).

Nightbreed (1990)- Great creature, make-up and stop-motion effects but otherwise very, very stupid film.

Ginger snaps (2000)- Vastly overrated and dull in my opinion, but the werewolf looks great once it's shown.

And there are more, I'll update when I have more time....

Oh, and I forgot "Basket case 3" (1990). Terrible, inept garbage, but the special effects were pretty good.

There was this movie I saw that had a giant mutant spider in it( I'm pretty sure it was called Arachnid). The movie was lousy, but the creature effects were pretty cool.

I've always liked Arachnid. Cool effects, nice photography, good acting, well-done movie.

I really liked Jeepers Creepers. Very creepy, atmospheric and suspenseful. Creature effects were good but gore effects were passable (A little too plasticy, if that's a word). Well-done movie, and the sequel was great.

It has to be the "Bat Rat Spider" in the Angry Red Planet. The movie was boreing and long! But this spider was downright cool! Over the years i saw this same spider on other Sci Fi shows as well, one being a old lost in space episode! I think it was called "The Zoo Keeper"

Another one was an episode of the old Outer Limits! It was called "The Zanti Misfits" Those ant creatures were wicked looking as well! Those ant creatures as well showed up on bit parts of other movies at the time as well!

I thought the creatures -- including the transformed Dr. Smith - in the Heather Graham version of Lost in Space were teriffic while the movie itself nearly drove me to purchase a firearm.
