I seem to buy DVDs in bunches, based on a particular "phase" that I happen to be going through at the time. For instance, I went through a JAMES BOND phase, which resulted in me buying all the Bond movies. I also went through a PLANET OF THE APES phase, a TWILIGHT ZONE phase, a JOHN WAYNE phase, an ALFRED HITCHCOCK phase, an AVENGERS phase, a PRISONER phase, a HUMPHREY BOGART phase, etc. Recently, I even went through a BILLY WILDER phase.

Do you buy/rent movies in bunches, based on certain actors, directors, genres, etc.? Or do you buy/rent on a more unpredictable basis?

I just went through a Suncoast phase. It began when my brother got me the "Fist of the North Star" Vol.1 DVD. When I finished it I went and bought the second voulme then the day after that I bought the anime "Guyver Vo.2" DVD. Then just yesterday I bought Two SWEET Fist of the North Star Action Figuers. I think I'm done now at least for a while because I owe my brother about 20 dollars so I want to get that settled first then buy more stuff.

I've been through a Zombie phase (got Dead alive, return of the living dead, burial ground, night of the living dead, Resident Evil (which i sold), and tried to get Dawn and Day of the Dead but couldn't find them for sale)

I went through a nightmare on Elm Street phase where I tried to get all of the movies and wound up somehow buying part 1 twice before I finally got part hree.  Haven't gotten Freddy's Dead yet though, ran out of money.

Tried to go through a Friday the 13th phase but I only got pats 1, 3,4, and 5 (all used for 10 bucks or less)and Jason X because I refuse to pay 25 dollars for a DVD with no extras.

Just went through an Old Movies I Haven't Seen in a while phase.  This included Stone Cold, Both Terminators, Total Recall, From the Hip, House PArty, Re Animator, Phantasm, Trick or Treat, and Cabin Boy.

ALso went through a remake/sequel phase.  Bought House Party 1 and 2, Both Little Shop of Horros, The Thing, Both Shinings, Ring and Ringu,

Then there was my short lived MArtial Arts phase .  Got Drunken Wu Tang, 36 Crazy Fists, CHess Boxing, Miracles, Project A, Drunken MAster II (unfortunately I had Legend of Drunken MAster already) and Story of Ricky

Then there was my "Arrow In the Head" phase which consisted of  Crying Freeman, Dark Water, Dog Soldiers adn some other movie that I got rid of.

The "My girlfriend wanted to see if" phase had me buying Final Destination, Frailty, Red Dragon, and Riggoletto (I let her keep that one)

Oh and how could I forget my Troma Phase.  Got Sgt. Kabukiman, Toxic Avenger, Tromeo and Juliet, Terror Firmer (edited and non edited) and found Decampited

yea thats alot of phases.

There is no rhyme or reason to my DVD purchases.

Usually price is the deciding factor.

If a good movie is offered for $15 or less I'll pick it up.

I refuse to pay more than $20 for a DVD no matter what film it is.

I never buy movies in bunches...I'm rather conservative and cheap so spending $50 to $100 on DVD's in one shot is unthinkable to me.

I would feel as if I had wasted my money and would dwell for days on all of the other things I really needed that I could've spent that money on.

I have a long process of replacing vhs tapes with dvds, so I try to free up the most space on the shelf by going through the "replace the 2 vhs tapes for one dvd" phase.

This frees up so much space, it also gives me the chance to do scanning and throwing in goofy catchphrases [as some of you assisted with on an earlier thread of mine].

I will beg others for DVD sets that I would not buy on my own. Lord of the Rings is a great example - I agree with ASHTHECAT, I wouldn't blow money like that on myself, but as a gift it's cool.

I have gone through Jackie Chan phases, Hong Kong movie phases, Final Destination phases, Quantum Leap phases, Star Trek Phases, and even a John Woo phase (but I can't bring myself to buy Blackjack, since that movie SUUUCCKKSS......)

My last one was a Superhero phase - I picked up Daredevil and the Punisher.
