Just seen the John Travolta film BASIC. Travolta great again. The film itself was done very well, but Travolta saves the day and makes it bearible. He seems to have found this character that can't go wrong in a movie. BATTLEFIELD EARTH and LOOK WHO'S TALKING are the only exceptions. Some of my favorite Travolta Films:

BROKEN ARROW
MICHEAL
SWORDFISH
PHENOMENON
GET SHORTY
CIVIL ACTION
PULP FICTION
FACE OFF
GREASE
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER

TV:

WELCOME BACK KOTTER

Travolta looks to be co-starring in THE PUNISHER that comes out in 2004.

I'm sorry I must proof read before posting. The film itself isn't that great, but Travolta saves the film with his usual ways.

BASIC was, for the most part, pretty good and played like a 70's Italian giallo: full of mystery and suspense. John Travolta is, in my opinion, a pretty decent actor. Now if he only would pick the RIGHT roles for once instead of just going for it way too often.

But further in the film, BASIC did come across as illogical and incohearant. And it all attributes itself to the "suprise" ending that, while different and unexpected, was out-of-left-field and quite useless to the film's conclusion. Basically, it comes across as a "happy ending" that if edited out of the film would have made the outcome more somber and less stogy then how it's concluded. In other words: eliminate the happy ending, and you actually would have a better film with a downbeat conclusion. Hollywood, give me a break!

Sorry people, but I don't think Travolta is a good actor. He certainly could be if he tried harder, but since his return to the land of the living actors with "Pulp Fiction" he has earned a reputation of asking for insane working conditions, whereas his acting hasn't been that memorable. Sure, he was OK in several films such as "A civil action" or "Get shorty", but he has also been in a lot of crap and even ruined potentially good roles, like he did in his two works with John Woo.

Last thing I heard of him, during the making of "A civil action",  was that he demanded on contract to have teleprompters on the set so he did not have to learn the dialogue.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.
