By now most of you have probably heard about the guy who dedicated his life to saving grizzly bears.
He had a website called www.grizzlypeople.com  (it shows a pic of him on it)

He & his female camping friend were mauled to death by 2 bears while camping in the Alaskan wilderness just the other day.

Go here to read the story:
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20031007_2334.html

One sentence in particular makes it sound like a scary B-movie.
It reads:
"The victims' remains and camping equipment were flown Monday to Kodiak. Ellis said investigators hope to glean some information from video and still cameras."

I don't know about you but that sure sounds like a "Cannibal Holocaust" or "Blair Witch" type story.

It said that when the pilot came in to pick them up he saw one of the bears standing over one of the victims, still eating pieces off of him/her.

What a horrible way to go.

Yikes!

Wow, bears don't usually eat people. Usually we are either in the way of food or startling them. They say black bears you can indimidate but if it's a grizzly don't even fight or run, just lay down and let it maul you until it gets bored and doesn't see you as a threat anymore. If you fight or keep moving they keep attacking you...particularly if you tried to run or put up a fight as you excite them.

I guess the guy knew about bears, I wouldn't want to think he was cooking or using soap or anything that would attract them but the bad thing about alaska is alot of tourists and locals even, feed the bears up there. While it seems cute, it's the worst thing you can do is associate people with food.

I have "The Edge" on dvd and a very deep primal fear and respect for bears. Thank god i live in texas.

From what I understand, the guy had a few dumb habits.  One was that he liked to get really close to the bears, within a few feet.

People feeding bears is probably one of the worst things though - I agree.  Normally bears will shy away from people, but if they get used to us that is a bad thing.
