Samson in the Wax Museum (1963)

SAMSON IN THE WAX MUSEUM (1963) - Another good Samson (Santo) movie. The dubbed dialogue has to be heard to be believed. No Mystery Theater 3000 needed for this one. The mad Doctor Karol who runs a wax museum uses people for his museum exhibits. The lab rantings of the mad doctor are great and the hero speech by Samson (Santo) are real movie gems. The labratory fight seen is lengthy. Possible one of the longest fight scenes in film (not to mention your favorite Roddy Piper They Live fight scene).

There are also 3 wresting matches in the ring with Santoduring the movie. His movie matches are usually 2 out of 3 falls and Santo usually wins them in two falls. There is one memorable international match in this film that has an American or Englishman as Santo's opponent, but I don't know what his real name was and I can tell he must have been a great heel in his time. A real Buddy Rogers type for all you wrestling fans on this board. He was oviously a real professional.

Well, for as much as I enjoyed SAMSON IN THE WAX MUSEUM I still like SAMSON VS THE VAMPIRE WOMEN better overall. I picked this one up for $3.99 like my other 3 Mexican Horror films last week.

According to the International Action Scene Society, (that actually exists, but has no website), FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE has the longest fight scene by two seconds. Incidentally, it is also the best. SAMSON IN THE WAX MUSEUM comes up two seconds behind FRWL.

Ah, give me the good old days of fight scenes. You know, where they destroy every bit of furniture around, throw really hard punches, and elaborately grapple on the floor. Nowadays, it's all martial arts computer trash and so fast that you can't tell what's going on. Same with chase scenes. Unless they do 'em live, it's a pale imitation of Mt. Rushmore and the streets of San Fran. Action scenes just ain't what they used to be. (sigh) Thank goodness for gems like these on video.

Wow, now that is what I call a statistics. Well I'll have to see FRWL again (actually I forget which bond films I've seen and which I haven't). Good to know that "Samson in the Wax Museum" is actually second in fight length.

By the way "They Live" last night on TV.
