These are films that I caught a glimpse of in the past, but just didn't catch my interest. Yesterday I gave them a second chance.

ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968) - This Polanski film is very good. AMC showed it and it stars Mia Farrow who is good in the film (I couldn't help think of Woody Allen). This is some creepy film about devil worshippers who are very meticulous and diabolical in producing a devils offspring. Very effective film.

THEY LIVE (1988) - AMC showed this one also. Directed by John Carpenter and starring wrestling legend Roddy Piper. I didn't know Carpenter directed this and having a pro wrestler star in a film didn't interest me. Being a big wrestling fan I imagined it as a big dud as most wrestler acted films are very poor. It turns out that the film in about average in my opinion. It rates up there with BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. I think it was the mixer of aliens, underground bases, sunglasses, and Roddy Piper that made this film work for me.

I loved "They Live"!

That brawl between Piper & Keith David has to be the longest fight in cinema history.

I just wish they'd made a sequel...

Piper wasn't bad. He wasn't great, but not bad either. The film can grow on you. Someone a couple weeks ago said that the Mexican Horror film SAMSON IN THE WAX MUSEUM has the longest recorded fight scene in a film, but your right the THEY LIVE is a long one. I'm glad that Piper was able to make a film that will be around for a while. He was one of my all time favorite wrestling personalities.

Piper served the movie well in a part that really didn't need much.

The movie itself was pretty good

Don't know about the longest, but it's certainly one of the funniest.

ROSEMARY'S BABY is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen, and one of the best all-around movies from the 1960s.

I really liked THEY LIVE the first time I saw it, but it has gone down hill for me with each repeated viewing.

One movie that I absolutely HATED the first time I saw it is THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE. However, I gave it a second chance, then a third, then a fourth. I have probably seen it about 10 or 12 times now, I own the DVD, and I really like it.

They Live is GREAT!! That fight scene is very cool. But I have seen longer. The final fight in Younge Master is like 20 minutes long. I forget the name of it but there is another kung-fu movie out there that I hear has a fight that's almost 30 minutes!!!!

I'll agree with everbody else. "Rosemary's Baby" is probably not only one of the greatest horror films of the '60's, but, probably one of the greatest horror films of all time. Of course, it helps if you don't know what is going to happen next.

ROSEMARY'S BABY actually relates to 2 others topics of conversation that showsup on this forum quite often:

Movies that are better than vs. not as good as the books they are based upon

Movies that are almost the same as vs. quite different from the books they are based upon

I would say that the movie ROSEMARY'S BABY is pretty faithful to the book, and that the book and the movie are pretty close in quality.  Some elements of the book are a little better than the movie, but some elements of the movie are a little better than the book.  Neither is the clear cut winner.
