HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS (1970) - Good vampire theatre movie from the TV series Dark Shadows. Dan Curtis directs this gory vampire story. Very good vampire lady in white and Barnabas Collins was also good of course. More good vampire dialogue. They sure use big vampire stakes in Curtis films

I kinda liked Dan Curtis DRACULA starring Jack Palance more. The cinematography is similar, but I liked Palance and the story more than HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS. Both are very good though.

I actually saw this when  I was in the Navy back in the early 70's.  Didn't someone shoot one of the vampires with a  wooden stake from a crossbow?

Yes trek_geezer at the end they try to shoot Barnabas Collins with a crossbow that shoots a wooden stake, but someone gets in the way blocking the shot, but then Collins gets stabbed by the stake.

Someone let me borrow a tape they made years ago off of TV with both HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS and DRACULA. First time I ever seen these films. Glad someone had them for me to view. The tape had something at the begining or end of each segment that said SATURDAY SHOCKER. No horror host but just the words SATURDAY SHOCKER was neat taped from a Philadelphia channel in the 80's.

There was also Night of Dark Shadows (1971), also by Dan Curtis and using actors/characters from the show. No Barnabas though. At the time I watched this, I'd never seen the show or the first movie, so I had no idea what it would be about. I seem to recall that I found it kind of boring. I think it had a lot of flashbacks, but I'm not positive now.

What about the 90's tv remake - I loved that, but like all horror shows they pulled it in the middle of the series.  Which reminds me of Kolchak.  I have both movies, but apparently only 15 episodes were made - shame, Darrin McGavin was a classic.

I saw this during its original theatrical run when I was 6 years old.  My father took me.  The part where Barnabas Collins turns into an old man scared the s**t out of me.

I'm looking forward to seeing CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER. Missed it on AMC around Halloween time. Sounds like a good one. I seen the DVD on the Suncoast Video shelve.

Yeah, "Kronos" is good. Made by the same people who did "The Avengers" TV program. Along with "Vampire Circus," I consider it the best vampire movie of the '70's. Enjoy!
