Partial Message from Ted V. Mikels

Just wanted to relay part of a message sent out by cult auteur persona Ted V. Mikels:

This coming week we will begin constructing a permanent set in the studio.  This will be a 'castle' room, decorated with many of the castle items from the Ted V. Mikels' castle in Hollywood. The set will be used to introduce a weekly series of horror, sci-fi, monster, and all other sorts of movies.  These will be syndicated across the country.  There will be opportunities for other independent movie-makers' to have their work aired along with guest appearances by stars, directors, and producers.

It will be a variation on the traditional 'horror host' movie shows.  Ted wants to focus more on showcasing new talent.  Since digital camcorders are cheaper than ever and more and more "Average Joes" are making their own movies this will be an outlet for worldwide exposure.

It really sounds like fun!  Anything to help reclaim the graveyard hours of the weekend from sleazy infomercial hucksters is welcome in my book.  I'm sure Ted will be posting more information on his website http:www.TedVMikels.com soon.

I like the idea, but I'm not sure it will work. Informercials are cheap programming. Unless he plans to pay stations to air it...

I think that he was talking about buying time initially.  I'm not positive.  Early on there was talk about the movie-makers paying a fee.  Not so much as a way to make a ton of money off the project, but just to weed out those people who aren't really serious.  Plus it guarantees that the movie-makers best work will be submitted for review instead of previewing hundreds of videotapes as people sling stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

I sure the guidelines will be fairly loose.  Just no nudity, profanity, nor overly grotesque stuff like mutilating children with a red-hot pitchfork.  A coherent story and compelling performances aren't a requirement.  Basically the standard practices observed on network television.

I'd love to start something with movies. With the new digital video camera and computer software you could do alot. It's becoming very affordable for the average person to make movies. Things could start getting interesting. The new cameras they have out are of the same quality of News channels and the price is now under $5000. (I forget how much, it may be even lower)

I remember that contest somewhere. They had like three days to shoot the best stuff they could and then all the entries were shown on the big screen and money prize was awarded.

That's the reason I'm kind of excited about the series.  I'm all for people breaking away from the norm and the restrictions that occur when you make a movie for studio pencil-pushers.  Computer video editing software is getting affordable and digital cameras ease the transfer.

It helps that Ted V. Mikels will be hosting it instead of, say, Steven Speilberg.  It'll take pressure off the movie-makers that everything has to be perfect.

I think it will be fun for the audience and might actually give a few people the break they can't get without traditional Hollywood contacts.
