We're all just victims of circumstance

This is actually being released nationwide March 12 by  Sony.  Check out the trailer:

There are also several reviews floating around out there.  I have my doubts about a movie trying to be bad on purpose, the old ones are better because they were trying to be serious.

This has actually been floating around for a couple of years.  It's been marketed in the same fashion as THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.  A website was created announcing the find of a "lost" movie.  One that was so cheap that only a couple prints were made.  The website added a few things like an old bubblegum card with the monster on it.

Like you, I'm leary of a movie intentionally made to be "bad".  But it is easy enough to do if you use community theater performers and limit yourself to props found at a GoodWill store.  The key to the approach is NOT to set out making it bad.  Doing the best job possible with no budget and dated equipment can easily duplicate the look of an authentic old film.

I'm just not sure if the average movie-goer can make the mental leap from it being a "lost" movie that's so obscure very few people have ever seen it to the idea it's comedic entertainment.

I believe the idea started up based on MANOS THE HANDS OF FATE which was truly a "lost" film until it aired on MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 and was immediately catapulted to infamy as a challenger to PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE as the worst movie of all-time.

This was pretty much ignored when I posted it.

I watched this movie last Monday.  I went to the 9:30PM showing and I was the only one in the theater.

As I feared, the director could not resist giving a "knowing wink" to the audience that all involved were aware the movie was silly.  It was like watching an old "Saturday Night Live" sketch doing a sendup of the Twilight Zone featuring the Coneheads.  Yet another pseudo-'bad movie'.

Meanwhile the premiere of Ted V. Mikels' THE CAULDRON: BAPTISM OF BLOOD is set for the Palms Casino theaters this weekend.  Any one in Las Vegas on Sunday is welcome.  The showing is free at 4:30PM.

Go here to read Roger Ebert's review of this film:

http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-news-cadavra12f.html

He agrees that it sucked because the filmmakers were intentionally trying to make it bad.

He gave it 1 1/2 stars out of 4
