Has anyone seen the scifi western type movie, "Westworld"? If so, was it any good? I'd like to watch it, but can't find it available for rent anywhere. Does anyone know where I could pick up a relatively cheap copy (preferably DVD if available)?

It's pretty good, I like it anyway. Yul Brynner pretty much being himself...robotic. Kinda like Jurassic Park meets The Magnificent Seven. which is not surprising, because I believe this was written by Michael Crichton.

Good semi-cheesy, 70's sci-fi. Deep Discount DVD has a copy for $14.39, though you could probably find it cheaper at a video store cut-out bin. That's one of the pluses of being a bad movie fan, most of the crap we like is in low demand, therefore...cheap!

It's a cool movie.  I liked it, so hey, it must be good ;)  It's about an amusement park of the future where you can live out your fantasies in various environments.  The old West, of course, or else ancient Rome, and a couple others.  In order to make the illusion of having gunfights and swordfights more real, robots are used for all the characters.

Then, something goes horribly wrong... eek!

Remember the line in the Jurassic Park movie.  "Only the Pirates of the Caribbean don't eat the guests."  In Westworld they kill the guests.

You can tell where they got the idea for the Terminator.  Yul is the unstoppable  gunfighter.  Some cheesy effects, but it was the 70's.

It was written by and was the directorial debut of Michael Chricton.

Although I really enjoyed Westworld (Yul at his best), you would be well advised to stay away from it's sequel "Futureworld". My dog doesn't have poop that stinks that bad...and that movie isn't even in the "so bad it's good" category.

Yea, WESTWORLD a good film from the 70's. It was a novel idea back then and you kinda see the same idea in TOTAL RECALL with the virtual vacactions. Yul Brenner wears the same outfit from THE MAGNIFICIENT SEVEN.

I thought Westworld was pretty good. I can't know this for a fact, but they used the idea of a computer virus even before there was such a thing. Of course I'm just guessing here as only a select few had access to computers at the time this was made and it seems unlikely that one of those people would have spent the precious little time they got to use computers on designing a program to disable or damage them.

The only thing I didn't like about Westworld is that the entire movie centers around Michael Crichton's fear of technology.

I'm with what the boys say here. Get it but stay away from the sequel, it is very boring.

This is a good movie, but it is very dated.  You have to watch it with a 1970s frame of mind.  Otherwise, you might be disappointed.

It's a fairly kickass flick.  I'm not sure where to pick it up, though.  Maybe try ebay?

Our Hollywood Video has a copy in my area. They are a good source for rental films.

I kind of like the sequel. Very different from the original and not as good, but I found it interesting.
