My lifelong school friend Ken Greenhalgh has been winding me up for YEARS with the tale of how in 1957/58 he went to see a 'horror' double bill at The Hipodrome Cinema in Leigh with the main film being BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN and the 'B' movie was an Egyptian mummy film he says was titled: THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB'

I have searched high and low for this Mummy film and can find no reference to it. I bought the 1940's film with Lon Chaney thinking that might be it, Ken just laughed, it wasn't.  I then thought it might be CURSE OF THE AZTEC MUMMY from 1957, another mistake.

So folk HELP PLEASE does anyone know what the film might really be called as Ken was only 8 years of age in 1957 and may have mistaken the title. He says he once saw reference to the film with a photograph in one of the Famous Monsters magazines.

Well, since you have already eliminated a couple of possibilities, there is a possibility that it could be "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" from 1955, but, the two strongest possibilities are "Attack of the Aztec Mummy" from (1957) and "The Pharaoh's Curse" from (1956),.While this does not have the word mummy in the title, it is about a mummy. There is a film titled "Curse of the Mummy's Tomb," but it is from 1964. I hope all this helps.

Maybe you're referring to "The Mummy" (1959) ; a Hammer film by Terence Fisher, with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
In my opinion a good -not great- Hammer film.

re THE MUMMY 1959

Thanks but Ken and I saw this way back then and it isn't the one. We now think it must be THE PHARAORH'S CURSE and we are searching for a VHS or DVD of this film.

Thanks for replying.

Best wishes

As I said in another post, I haven't dealt with them myself, but this movie is listed on Roberts Hard to Find Videos.

Pharoah's Curse, VHS, $24.95
