We're all just victims of circumstance

« on: July 02, 2004, 06:07:08 PM »

Word is out that James "Scotty " Doohan  (84) is suffering from Alzheimer's.  Poor guy has had it rough the last few years , he also has  diabetes, Parkinson's, and lung fibrosis.   I believe that he and DeForest Kelley were the same age.

There will be a  Star Trek convention in LA  Aug. 28-30  entitled  "Beam me up Scotty" at which he will get his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  This has been advertised as his last appearance for  a few months now.

Watching TOS as a kid with my Dad, Scottie was my first favorite character.  I think he gave a LOT to the show, and I am saddened to hear his health is failing.

When Deforest Kelly died, I felt like I got slapped.  It's hard to believe that those actors are getting to 'that age,' because, man, that show is just timeless.

Hope all goes well with the Lad. And when his time comes, as it does for us all, lets hope he knows he's appreciated.

Years from now, we will all find out that William Shatner also had Alzheimer's . . . and that it started during the first season of the original series . . .
