CREEPYYYYYYYYYYYYYY...documentary

about a long island teacher with three boys and a wife. the many awarded teacher retires and continues to teach computer classes in his basement. meanwhile, the postal system catches him ordering a child porno magazine from abroad and get a search warrant. search his house and find more.

soon a witchhunt ensues whereby  children in his computer class are asked leading questions by police and given pizza and badges to "co-operate."

mr. friedman pleads guilty (and later admits on other occasions he DID have contact with minors...just not in the computer class) which implicates his 18 year old son jesse since he helped with the classes.

the son winds up serving 13 years on a 6 to 15 sentence. the reason he bargained and pled guilty was that he was threatened with fighting each case of alleged sex abuse individually, which would have kept him in the prison system for life. his father later committed suicide.

it's pretty inconceivable that "gang rapings" went on during the computer classes since any parent could drop by at any time. there were no locked doors leading to the basement. there was one student who swore to investigators that there was never any abuse. the child's mother was not allowed to be present during the questioning in her kitchen, but she secretly taped the interrogation. the cops totally put the kid down when he doesn't agree witht the allegation. then they later tell the mother that they don't like her kid's attitude...

very interesting...if you get this from netflix, be advised that there is also a BONUS disc with some great additional evidence. for one thing, police found playboy magazines in the 18 year old's bedroom (usually not read by homosexual pedophiles), they cops also found some cameras and some dirty photos (of women) that one might order online or some such thing. the cops took all of these items, found in different locations, and then photo'd them as if they were all found together.

wheh.......anyway,what makes this doc really interesting is that once the family knew their father would probably wind up in prison, they filmed on their own. over 25 hours of family arguments, parties, etc.

the director "discovered" the story while doing a doc on new york clowns. mr. friedman's brother is the most employed party clown in new york, and he sort of opened up to the director about his brother's story...

I read about this flick about a year ago and it looked extremely good.

My local Blockbuster carries it on DVD, yet my wife hates docs.  :o(  I will have to rent it sometime to check it out.  Thanks for the review!

Sadly this is not the first time this has happened.  There was one town where the story had  even the prosecuting attorney participating in the action including ritual sacrifice of live babies.  Small children can come up with some pretty wild stuff when coaxed to do so.

The country went crazy with the stuff back in the 80's.

That was an excellent documentary and oddly enough I just saw it a couple of weeks ago on one of the HBO channels I believe.  The worst part about these types of crimes is that they are considered to be the most horrific..even more so than murder, and they put it all over the media BEFORE the trial.  By that time blind justice isn't so blind ey?

Mass hysteria is an interesting and very scary reality that plagues the worst times in history...like the McCarthy days, Nationalism (one of the worst being the Nazi movement), and even things like this but perhaps not so much on a grand scale.

Saw a doc on NBC recently (dateline i believe?) about this same occurance Trek.  Seemed that a young girl was murdered and there was a family who they thought killed her.  Then a friend of one of the children came forward saying they had participated in Satanic rituals, killing babies and such.

Pretty interesting stuff.  It all was fake in the end though.

it's very unfortunate that some kids lie about this stuff because there are many exploited and abused children in the world who don't recieve fair legal treatment or go unnoticed.

No, it's very unfortuante that grown ups coerce children to lie.  Saying things like "I know what happened just tell us."  "He touched you there didn't he?"  "Didn't he do that while you were taking lessons?" "Who else did he hurt?"  The poor kid denies at first then breaks down thinking "If I say yes then this will stop and they will go away and leave me alone"  Some even learn to believe in it, for memories are not always so realistic.  Thousands of studies have been done to supposed "witnesses" (even grown ups).  In one each witness gave a different description to the same act.  It is a matter of perception and assuming from past experiences.

Not right at all.

word...can you imagine spending 13 years in prison for something you didn't do...and also have it be the most despised crime among the prisoners.

i am reminded of kevin mitnick who spent 8 months in solitary confinement (no books, pencils, etc) and an amount of three years without A BOND HEARING OR A TRIAL DATE???

i ordered the FREEDOM DOWNTIME DVDs from 2600.org...well worth the money...to see how a government can deny a civilian's rights...scary crap

i'm not quite sure why you attacked my post. did i say that i condone the violation of civil rights?

i just wanted to make a point about how these children that lie take the attention away from children who really are abused and exploited (which there still is A LOT of in spite of the tragic cases mentioned).

the cool thing about FREEDOM DOWNTIME is that it is REGION FREE and the FBI WARNING is a farce saying that everyone should copy the video/dvd and stream it on the web. they actually say in writing on the box that one should spread the actual film as much as possible...in line with their anti MPAA stance!

I wasn't attacking, juust expressing my opinion like you.  all you had written previously was that it was unfortunate that kids lie about this stuff to take from those that have really been abused.

I don't blame the kids, and don't feel it is unforunate that they lie (they really do not understand nor know the consequences at hand).  What I feel unfortunate is not the kids who lie, but the adults who push them to lie.

that is all I was trying to express, sorry you took it the wrong way, but I still hold firm to what I said.
