RAGE AT DAWN (1955) The year is 1866 and currupt town officals make the decisions. The Reno Brothers work with the corrupt town officials robbing banks and such. A Peterson law agency aims to break up the Reno brothers and sends Randolf Scott in to infultrate the gang. Good story and some rather shocking moments especially at the end when the town has had enough of the bad guys and form a lynch mob to hang the Reno brothers. Scott had just put them behind bars and the town drags them out and hangs them. Bought this one for $2 at ACME grocery store. Randolf Scott made some solid Westerns in the 50's. Forrest Tucker co-stars as the leader of the Reno brothers.

Completely off topic, but the title of this movie got me thinking about the NUMEROUS movies that have a time of day in their title (dawn, noon, day, morning, etc.)  Here are just a few:

* NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
* DAWN OF THE DEAD
* DAY OF THE DEAD
* FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN
* THE MORNING AFTER
* THE EVENING STAR
* HIGH NOON
* FROM NOON 'TIL THREE
* STEEL DAWN
* LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON
* TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING (and where in the hell is the DVD release of this movie?)
* TWILIGHT OF THE DEAD
* GHOSTS IN THE NOONDAY SUN

The list goes on and on . . .

On the subject of westerns, ever seen a silly western called (I believe) 'The Great Rocky Mountain Race' which starred Forrest Tucker? It is completely ahistorical as it pits Mark Twain against Mike Fink in a scavenger hunt the town hopes is dangerous enough to get rid of both of them.

Just a couple of historical notes. Not having seen the film, I don't know how historically accurate it is, except for the fact that there was a gang called the Reno Brothers, and they were lynched at the end. Otherwise, they operated out of Indiana, were responsible for the first train robbery in the U.S., and the gang was broken up by the Pinkerton Detective Agency. One of the first success stories for the Pinkertons.

Your correct about the Reno brothers operating out of Indiana and the film tells us that at the beginning. A Western East of the Mississippi River. I guess they just changed the name of the agency to Peterson for some reason. The hanging scene is very effective with out them even showing the actual hanging. There is also a burning scene at the beginning when they tie some guy to a barn post and set the barn ablaze.  I know you will enjoy this one BoyScoutKevin. Good film.
