And you know why? Becasue the DVD is uncut at 88 minutes and my old VHS from Orien Home Video is only 86 minutes. But what really p**ses me off is that the old video had new BAD electronic music by a Kendall Schmidt while the DVD has the original Gino Marinuzzi, Jr. theatrical music score!

In conclusion, after watching PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES on DVD it is without a doubt a good A movie from Mario Bava which shows that Bava was not just talented with Gothic horror films but he could combine that genre with science fiction as well. The special effects are impressive for both at it's time (1965 to be exact) and today as well. And the English language dubbing by American International Pictures dubbing association Titra Sound Studios (later changed to Titan International in late 60's) is effective (Paul Frees has his voice added in one of the characters). PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES is a great Italian-Spanish coproduction. Finally, their is a country out there that CAN top an American film. God bless those Italian's and Spanish, they can make a good movie.

Questions or comments about this fantastic film?

I have been wanting to see this movie from the first moment I was photos of the film about 5 years ago and I still having found it on TV or at the local video stores. I know I can purchase it by I just can't , especially till I get a DVD player.

Is BAVA also the one you did TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD?  I loved that film.

Also speaking of horror films made in Spain, why are they not available in all video strores. The little I have seen of them are just great.

Bava did not direct TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD (another favorite of mine as well). It was Amando de Ossorio who made TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD as well as helming it's three sequels THE RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD (1973), HORROR OF THE ZOMBIES (1974) and NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS (1975).

As for why some Spanish films are not all available, I don't know. But I know Anchor Bay Entertainment may be interested in giving some Spanish films a release on video. How do I know this? Anchor Bay is going to release the two Paul Naschy films THE WEREWOLF'S SHADOW (1972; U.S. Title: THE WEREWOLF VS. VAMPIRE WOMAN) and CURSE OF THE DEVIL (1973) soon. I just can't wait.

I have always loved this movie, and am pleased to see the original music score restored after that awful substitution on the video release.  However I had always seen this movie on TV back in the '70s as "The Demon Planet"...
