Caught this last weekend. An interesting combination of monster movie and beach movie. I have one question, and have not yet found an answer. It looks as though two movies were combined, or new scenes were added to existing ones. On the one hand, there is a story about sea zombies, which includes all the main characters and plot. But then there are the cheesy beach scenes and musical numbers, and scenes involving fish men (with mouths full of Johnsonville Brats) sneaking up on people.

Anybody know the story behind this?

I know it's Mst3k fodder in the 8th season.

This isn't the one with all the SODIUM talk, is it?

Yup. Because aside from tenderly grilling their little sausage faces, sodium is the only thing that can destroy them. They are quite an advanced species no doubt.

That's my favorite bad editing. They're looking at a sample of monster flesh, accidentally burn it up with sodium and remark about how thoroughly that destroys it. Then about an hour goes by with everyone going "Oh, no, if only there were some way to destroy the monsters!" Then, all of a sudden, this guy goes, "I've got to get some sodium!" Then there's all that stuff with him driving to the big city where there's a sodium store.

What gets me is that sodium worked because it reacts with water to generate a lot of heat, not because it's particularly toxic to them. Burn them with flaming fuel oil, throw lye at them. There were lots of readily-available things that might have worked, but sodium was the first thing that did, and they never thought any further.

Then there was all that talk of the huge quantity of sodium needed, and only finding one company in New York with enough. Then the guy drives out to get it in his little two-seater convertible.

I won't even go into the idea of people chucking pure sodium with their bare hands.
