I've come to realize that when I watch movies, I find myself distracted by things that you're not supposed to notice, by the underlying mechanics of the movie.

For example, I notice how when Gimli and the hobbits are standing near the "tall" characters, they are:

A) Only shown from the waist up, or
B) Shown from the back
C) Shown from the front with something covering their face.

Or, for another example, when watching Star Wars Episode 1, I take Watto's line "You think you're some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that? I'm a Toydarian, mind tricks don't work on me."  I hear that and I immediately think "He's saying that writer needed to explain to the audience how Jedi mind tricks didn't work on Watto WITHOUT having Watto realize Qui-gon was a Jedi.

While these observations sound rather obvious, what I find interesting about myself is I'll be distracted by them unless I force myself not to.  What's also interesting is I'll notice them more in big budget movies, because if the movie is low budget I'll dismiss them as shoddy film making but in big budget movies I'll think "They REALLY shouldn't have been so obvious with that..."

I don't know... anybody else watch movies with that sort of mentality?

OH yes, and on an unrelated note, why isn't the password recovery system working?  My old screen name was Snesman64, but I'll have to go with the next closet thing , Snesman63point999totheinfinity, until I can get my password recovered.

I agree with you.
I notice product placements in films now.   And I have gotten my wife to start having those "Hey!" moments when a plot hole shows up.
