Who else is excited about the re-release of AKIRA?  Brand new digitally remastered film and sound, and I hear they're working on a new translation.  Expect a special edition DVD sometime soon.

Does anybody have any news if they're going to actually release it theatrically?  I heard that they were, but nothing definite.

Sorry I can't give you a link, but the news shouldn't be too hard to find.

Not only are they releasing it theatrically, but the premiere will be in digital projection.  Check out www.akira2001.com for more details.  I've heard that Warner Bros. will be handling the theatrical distribution, though it certainly won't be as widespread as their Pokemon releases.  But it will kick ass.

...and you know the manga is currently being released in its own "remastered" form already, in the same phone-book-volume format as the original Japanese version, yes? Darkhorse.com.

Woo hoo.  Cough.  Nobody will release Nausicaa on DVD but they'll put out this crap?  I don't know, everyone else seems to think that the blood-colored-cell-paint extravaganza that is Akira is just the greatest, but I never saw anything in it.  Kind of like I can't stand Hellraiser, or Alien, or a bunch of other "landmark" movies both fanboys and critics agree are so good.  Give me practically any anime over Akira any day, except maybe Ghost in the Shell.
