Most people wouldn't care, but I'm quite happy that finally, after years of waiting, Mom and Dad Save the World is finally being released on DVD on May 31!

For anyone unfamiliar with it, the basic premise is that the Earth is to be destroyed by an evil alien race (well, not so much evil as stupid), but the emperor spies one lovely earth woman, Marge, and falls in love with her. He then kidnaps her, her husband and their station wagon (can you kidnap a station wagon?) and tries to force her to become his empress. It is up to her husband, the mighty Dick Nelson, to save her.

Marvel at a planet where bipedal bulldogs marry bipedal, air-breathing fish! Cringe in horror as Mario-Brothers-style mushrooms grow teeth and try to feast on your flesh! Beware the Light Grenade!

Yes, the movie is stupid, and yes, Jeffrey Jones is a perv, but the movie works for me much better than the other "look at how stupid we can be" movies have. I can't sit through five minutes of Dumb and Dumber or its sequel, and I have no interest in Meet the Stupids, but just put the idiots on another planet and make Jon Lovitz their emperor (All Hail Tod!!!) and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Oh, and Teri Garr doesn't hurt, either; I've always liked her.

Is that the one with Kathy Ireland as an amazon warrior?  I love Kathy.  Especially in an amazon warrior outfit.

It is indeed. And where else but on a planet of idiots could Wallace Shawn (Vizzini from The Princess Bride) ever get a woman with the looks of Kathy Ireland (in an amazon warrior outfit) to fall for him?

And let us not forget my favorite character, King Raff, as played by Eric Idle.

And the parents in this film are Teri Garr and Jeffrey Jones. Teri Garr, I can see, but Jeffrey Jones?!

I always get this film confused with "Stay Tuned" w/ John Ritter and Pam Dawber as the parents. Maybe because both films came out in 1992, and both starred Jeffrey Jones.

The main difference between them is that Mom and Dad Save the World is entertaining and Stay Tuned is, well, unwatchable. Which is a shame, considering how babe-a-licious Pam Dawber is...

I don't think I even made it a half an hour into this film before I changed the channel.

Absolutely terrible!
And not in a good way.
