What was wrong with the original animation dammit?

Sure, all the main characters were killed off so they could sell hipper and cooler new Transformers, and the scenes don't really have much of a flow between them, but the soundtrack was good and I generally enjoyed it thouroughly!

If it ain't got a rockin' 80's soundtrack, I think we will be all the poorer for it!

Well, let's see how it goes then shall we?

Sounds like half the Saturday-morning kids' shows of the early 90s.

I already mentioned one of them: "VR Troopres" - bad... very bad...

then I remember "Sailor Moon" ("Live-Action"), arghh!

Two series that should go down in the annals of bad taste.

The TransFormers should work pretty well with CGI.  The originals were very angular and bulky.  So long as they animate them like they have mass.

What I'm worried about is the voice casting.  They really ought to get Peter Cullen and Frank Welker as Optimus and Megatron.  The guy who did Megatron's voice in Beast Wars sounded too much like a gay art teacher (little in-joke there).  Garry Chalk is a good Optimus, though, if Peter Cullen isn't available/alive anymore.

Peter Cullen is still around. He's appeared at Botcon a few times, from what I've read.I think he'd even expressed interest in doing Optimus in the new cartoons if they wanted him.

Don't know if he'd be considered for the movie though. I imagine it would be popular movie actors in the roles. Hard to imagine who they'd get for some of these characters. Any thoughts on who would be good?
