The movies released this year have, for the most part, been absolutely terrible. I've been watching the weekly totals religiously for some good laughs. This week is by far the lowest grossing weekend I've seen so far.

#1: "Kingdom of Heaven" only made 20 million.
#2: "House of Wax" only made 12 million.
and #3: "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" only made 9 million.

And with "The Dukes of Hazard" and "Herbie the Lovebug" on the horizon, it looks like things will only get worse...

"Revenge of the Sith" might end up pulling more of an audience than normal, winning over even the jilted fans who now hate "Star Wars", just because movies have been so bleak lately.

Kingdom of Heaven.  I don't need to see a PC version of the Crusades.
House of Wax.  Give me Vincent Price over Paris Hilton any day of the week.
Hitchhikers Guide.  Um, parents were in town, they'd already seen it.  Maybe next weekend.

Kingdom of Heaven, PC or not has ass kicking aplenty. This one's good just on the gore factor, like Black Hawk down. They'll throw all this moral mumbo jumbo in there just to make you feel better that you're really there to get your killgasm on. Personally I thought Kingdom of Heaven was a wasted chance at making a comment on the morality of power, but fuggit, as I said in a previous thread, swordings, boiling oilings, axings, arrowings, scimitarings, leperings, oh my!

Oh yes and to add, Paris Hilton does not deserve to lick the earwax off of Vincent Price's Q-tip. I will skip House of Wax.

I guess i haven't missed out on much then. I can't even remember what the last movie i saw in a theater was and that is pretty sad. I do know it was last year, most of the reason is that the movies in theaters are forgettable. The other half is i'm disgusted with the remakes. All the big releases are remakes. ;-/  I want to go to see a big blockbuster that is new to me, not something i'm already familiar with that won't be as good

i keep hoping this summer will have at least some popcorn flicks. So today i went to walmart and bought "Clash of the titans" and "A Nightmare on elm street" to tide me over. I've been buying more older movies lately too, no new releases on dvd interest me...that's how bad hollywood has been the past couple of years. my other recent purchases, guilty pleasures, are "the breakfast club", "stigmata", "the seventh sign" and...well yeah I did get "national treasure". While a ripoff of the concept of the Da Vinci code, it was still fairly entertaining. No doubt we'll see a sequel......no doubt

Yes, and in 15-20 years, we'll also see a re-make.

Paris Hilton is in a movie now?  Egads.  She did such a good job of wandering around acting like she had an IQ of 2 on The Simple Life, why, obviously she should be in movies.

The apocalypse must surely be just around the corner.

It's funny, but the truly moronic crap we're seeing this season makes me think of a few lines from a MadTV music video parody on this subject:

There wasn't one good summer movie.
They all p**sed the #### out of me...

Hollywood just doesn't get it: we want entertainment, not this endless stream of far-left moralizing political crap. I think I'll be sitting this season out again.

I think this summers going to be alittle better than last. Besides Star Wars, You have a ok lineup aleast in the beginning of the summer: Batman Begins, Land of the Dead and Unleashed that comes out tomm. looks good. I am skeptical about Fantastic Four(The Roger Corman version of the Thing looks hell of alot better and thats not saying much) and War of the Worlds.

When I went and saw Hitchhikers guide a few weeks ago, I noted one very disturbing fact:  every trailer shown before the film was a remake or a sequel, from Bewitched to Herbie the bloody lovebug.  That's not a very good sign at all...

But that being said, there's a heap of films that I am anxious to see coming out sometime in the near future, so the latter half of this year is going to be great.

We still have yet to get Sin City for starters, and I'm pretty excited about Batman Begins, War of the Worlds and Charlie and the chocolate factory.  Not sure when Land of the Dead will come our way but I hope sooner than later of course!

Could someone post about Unleashed, I bought the soundtrack months ago, under the original title 'Danny the dog' and based on that I think the movie is going to be a bit nuts [Massive Attack did the soundtrack, go figure]

It doesn't sound like your usual chop-socky Jet Li action flick.

Ah well, at least Star Wars is out next week.  That will tide me over for a bit.

June 17?  Cool.  I hope its not too long until we see it. [we usually get films other than the big blockbusters a few weeks or months after America]

Enjoy
