Like all such lists from "Premier Magazine," easy enough to do. Even taking into account how many of Bogart's characters already appear there, why is Katherine Hepburn's character from "The African Queen" there and not Humphrey Bogart's? And having seen 41 of the films and liking 28 of them, why is Jeff Spicoli's from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" so high, and why is Darth Vader's from "Star Wars" so low? And, Ethan Edwards from "The Searchers" is a John Wayne character. Though, if I had to pick a John Wayne character, I would have picked Rooster Cogburn from "True Grit." As Ethan Edwards was a one-shot deal, and Rooster Cogburn spawned a sequel and a made for TV movie.
No, my main complaint with the list, is that I don't really have any empathy with any of the characters on it. However great they may be. Instead, I would pick characters with which I had some empathy.
Kevin, the boy scout in "Lair of the White Worm."
Kurt Kelly in "Heathers"
Scott Wormer in "Now and Then"
Bruton, the Iguandon in "Dinosaurs"
"Evil Ed" Thompson in "Fright Night"
Thomas d'Apcher in "Brotherhood of the Wolf"
Nlow, those are characters for which I can feel some empathy.
