movie with shelly duvall (()live)

hi, im looking for the title of a movie.  i believe it is early 80's.  i remember the name in the movie of the main actor was "willard".  Its sort of an adventure/romance movie.  I think maybe shelly duvall was in it.  (she starred in popeye as Olive).  I think she and this willard guy are romantic in this movie.  I really want to find the title of the movie so i can get it.  I looked under Shellly duvalls acting credits but can't find a movie liket this one related to her, but im almost sure she was in it.

The only movie I can think of that may fit here is Time Bandits, though she didn't play a huge part in it. She did appear several times during the movie however. I am most likely wrong but one of these knowledgeable folks should be along shortly.

Could it be "Bernice Bobs Her Hair"? Duvall was the star, but it doesn't have Bruce Davison , it does co-star Dennis Christopher who looks somewhat like Davison.
