What exactly is "Punk"?  RAMONES took their name from a PAUL pseudonym.  Sure, BEATLES aren't Punk.  Or are they?

You made me think.
Are the Beatles punk?
Punk isnt just loud music-it's an attitude-it's rebellion.
The Beatles had plenty of that.
The establishment at the time hated them-for a minute-then they loved the "mop tops".
Then they reinvented themselvels-and if people say drugs had nothing to do with it-they would be WRONG.
Drugs had lots to do with it.
And then the "Establishment" hated them again.
So were they "punk"?
You brought up a good point Hallows-one I cant answer-I do know this-
I love the Beatles!

You argue my point better than I could!!   :teddyr:
I think the Punk Rock and New Wave owe a lot to the Fab Four, and the Stones..., and dress designers!!   :bouncegiggle:

I Feel Fine - The Beatles

This song is really about the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi... whom LENNON saw bothering MIA FARROW's sister...

Punk is a vibe or attitude. I probably didn't have to say that.
Take a band like EyeHateGod. Sounds like Black Sabbath being gang raped by `My War`era Black Flag. Mike`s vocals are REALLY punk too.

They may be dark or foreboding... I think they're boring.  I can't stand those egg-gargling vocals.

Wayne County & the Electric Chairs:Stuck on You:Germany 1978

Who's a bigot?  Are you a bigot?  JAYNE COUNTY (formerly WAYNE COUNTY) a long time PUNK rocker doesn't scare me.  Does she scare you?

THE DEAD KENNEDYS must have had JAYNE COUNTY in mind when they named an album Plastic Surgery Disasters... JAYNE does make a point, though.  What is PUNK?

Jayne County - New York Underground

Can a simple tune with a disturbing lyric be PUNK?

Killing Joke's early material was quite punk - maybe post punk, but hey, they're one of my all time faves. After theiir first few albums they totally went into an almost synthpop sound (which is quite excellent though). Then they changed their style again into an industrial metal vibe. A very important group and a massive influence on many musicians. HAIL!

What bores you about them AHD? I think they're one of the most repulsive hard drug driven bands out there. They were all big time junkies around the time of that album. A million death metal bands can grunt about death and pain, but EHG really mean it. And what have you got against egg gargling vocals? Mike's screams just ooze with filth, disease and addiction. But hey, to each their own.

Me First and The Gimme Gimmes.  They're a punk 'supergroup' of sorts, made of members of other punk bands.  They exclusively do covers.
