I was curious.....I am a writer of short fiction.  Mostly thrillers and horror.  One particular story I've almost finished involves a young security guard who has been posted in a guardshack in a big factory on his last day on the job (sees his future ahead of him...college, wife & family etc...) who is menaced and terrorized by something not quite human outside of it.  It is very claustrophobic, fast paced and intense.  I am currently working on such things until I get a great idea in my head for a novel.  I was just curious if you all would be receptive to any of my writings?  I honestly don't know why I'm asking this of you because I know in my heart that most of you would graciously read what I post on here.  Basically what it comes down to is asking Andrew's permission to post my fiction.  If any of you like Stephen King (my mentor...he's a genius), it is in this same vein.  Do I have your permission? What do you think?

I have no objections, I myself write fiction (mostly humourous.) and I  don't see who'd have trouble with it.

Definitely if there's no limit to how long a post can be.  I'd give it a read and let you know what I think.

I write too (granted my stuff's a bit more, *ahem* mature) and would love to have a look see.

If you do go through with this (and I'd wait for an all clear from Andrew before I started), give a bit of warning, either in the topic title or at the head of the text.  I'm also a writer, and occasionally drift into the darker realms.  I don't like reading unpublished stuff; there's too many potential problems for me and for the writer.

My advise is not to do it, but if you feel the need, and there is no problems with Andrew, I won't b***h.

*****  I hadn't thought about that, but if there was a problem, ASHTHECAT would have a solid copyright since his ip address and the date of his post could be verified.  Remember, anything you do (write, draw, paint, sculpt, play, sing, etc. - not invent, that's patent law) is automatically copyrighted (US law) and it is an enforceable copyright as long as you can establish the date on which you did it.  You do not need to go to a lawyer to copyright something (although it is an excellent way to get ironclad proof of the date you did it).

Feel free to, but be careful as the others have noted.  There are some bad people wandering the WWW.

Excellent points, but not the reason I don't like reading unpublished stuff.  Even as it is, writers trip and stumble over the same ideas and themes.  I don't want to risk being accused of taking someone else's stories.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, nor suggesting that they would or should.  It's a case of being safe over being sorry.

Also, be very careful with putting anything on the Internet.  No matter what anyone tries to tell you, IT'S NOT SAFE .

You guys are right.  I don't think I'll post any of my short fiction due to all of the hassles involved.  Maybe another time.

*****  Well if you get it published in a school literary magazine (not sure how old you are) or somewhere else, let us know.  Good luck.
