I'm feeling like resurrecting this thread because it's hilarious, and also to add ENEMY to my list. Like, seriously, what the hell is that thing.

Most of the crappy movies made here in the 1980s under the apartheid government's loophole ridden subsidy scheme 😳😳

I'll jump in just 'cause a student asked me yesterday what the worst horror movie I'd ever seen was and w/ very little consideration my answer was SCHRAMM. I watched that and DER TODESKING in the same night and regretted it so much I never even bothered to check out either NEKROMANTIK. I realize that Jorg Buttgerit used to have some sort of cache w/ edgelords but I found nothing but unpleasantness and boredom in both films. Y'know what, come to think of it, I might've watched both the same night as my first viewing of SALO, and while I could eventually come around to appreciating SALO for its finer points  there was nothing redeeming about the Buttgerits to make me go back, even 30 years later. I've seen worse, probably, but those two live pretty solidly in my all-time bottom 10.

Buttgerit has primarily made documentaries since SCHRAMM - and GOOD!  Alas he did contribute a short to GERMAN ANGST and he directed a feature in 2010 called CAPTAIN BERLIN VERSUS HITLER which I'd never heard nor read a word about until I googled him moments ago. So maybe I'm not alone in my distaste for his narrative work.

I'd add The Tall Man, very well made but [[[spoiler]]]

seemed to be making the point that working class people suck and hate their kids and the solution is to give them to rich people in big cities?

I recently tried to watch SCARY MOVIE 2 (someone on here mentioned it the other day...) and was dismayed by it. Wasn't expecting NAKED GUN levels of quickfire wholesome gags, but this was just absolutely depressing.

You know when a movie is so bad it actually makes you feel grief for humanity in general. Not seen anything that purile or low down in a while... my first and last SCARY MOVIE

Most Steven Seagal movies leave me feeling that way, but not as much as his music.

A piece of trash called SQUIRM FEST (1989) in which a naked Asian woman is forced to eat maggots and s**t,  puke, then eat the maggoty s**t. I dunno who this was made to appeal to, but but I'm not one of them. I watched about 20 minutes and threw it in the garbage afterwards. Yuk!

The first one is not bad but I think it didn't aged well, it's kinda cringe. The second is definitely awful, the only good bit is the guy's deformed hand, the rest is trash. Having said that, the third one is hilarious, give it a chance.

My two classics of horrible movies are Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things.  One of the main characters is about the most annoying prick you'll ever see in a movie, almost nothing happens until the last ten minutes, then everybody is killed. It does have a great title and some wonderfully awful 70s fashion though.

My other classic is Bloodsucking Freaks.  It's Troma. It has an evil midget and a Z-grade Vincent Price wanna-be.

Two others that stand out in my mind are S.I.C.K. (Serial Insane Clown Killer).  Not even the acronym works in this movie.  It's about a fut guy in clown makeup.  People keep finding dolls and doll parts and ... possibly something else happens.  I can't remember.

I love CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS! I dunno, I think DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT (1973) is a classic, so what do I know?

I'm not real wild about FOR THE LOVE OF BENJI (1977). I got told to take my 2 little brothers to see it at the Strand, and they didn't pay attention to it. I just wanted to leave, but I couldn't. I had to baby-sit my snot nosed brothers and suffer through a G-rated version of Hell.

I too love CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS. The male lead is obviously intended to be a toxic prick, and the actor does a great job. I also find the female lead (the male lead's foil who's constantly challenging him) to be highly appealing.

Although BLOODSUCKING FREAKS is entirely indefensible, I don't hate that one either.

The first, third, and fourth SCARY MOVIEs were all great fun once - then the jokes instantly expire after one viewing. It's true, SCARY MOVIE 2 is hard to endure even once.

Lester, you are 100% correct on all counts about THE TALL MAN. Y'know, I have that same issue w/ SAVING PRIVATE RYAN - I'm with the movie all the way until the finale, then I'm like WHAT the heck is this movie telling us, now...?!?!?!   :buggedout:  :bluesad:

hmm... looks like I picked the wrong week to quit watching SCARY MOVIE instalments.

I won't be actively searching them out but thanks for the tip off
