Some restrictions have been lifted for New Year celebrations and then a person named Rob Hersov posted this online, calling for the removal of all restrictions.

1. The pandemic is over
2. Omicron is a flu
3. Calling the President by his first name  :buggedout:
4. Calling one of the other government ministers useless.  :buggedout:

We cancelled Christmas Eve get together at my one cousins, because he has covid. He's still not vaccinated despite this being the SECOND time he's gotten it.

A few days later, my one older brother tests positive for it.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...

My manager got covid and wants to transfer to a different store since none of the other managers checked up on him. He also talked s**t about them before catching covid.
yeah no.

One of my co-workers and her whole family got COVID over the Christmas break.  She already had it last year, between Christmas and Thanksgiving.   So you CAN get it twice; so much for the "natural immunity" route.

My friend has it, she'll be okay.  Since she's vaxed and boosted, she should emerge with "super immunity".

Yeah, for sure.  I know someone in their 80s who caught it, got the vaccine, and then got it again.  However, the only reason they even knew they got it the second time is they had a routine test for it; they were asymptomatic.

My sister and her boyfriend came back home from working in Cali and have tested positive for covid.  Uggh
yeah no.

As of yesterday, I am now one of three people based in Fort William to do vaccinations in the northwest coast region. Central government had a target of 80% of the population to have had their 3rd shot. We achieved that around xmas day so I am not sure how busy we will be. I'd imagine most of those who are left are either too young to get the shots or just don't want them.

so let me see if I understand this: because I was sent home early from the school I was working at 3 days ago after showing symptoms but the rapid test I took came up negative  and I reported this to the district covid people --  I need another negative test result taken after January 15 so I can re-enter school grounds, but I can't schedule one during times that I'm not scheduled to work because places are booked solid -- so I'm f**ked with my thumb up my ass

From the latest Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation Report:

"The Omicron wave in the US appears to have peaked in 19 states and continues to increase in the rest of the states. Given experience in other countries including Canada, we expect peaks in the next 1-2 weeks in nearly all states... Our models suggest that transmission is so intense, and the wave is cresting so fast, that policy interventions such as mask mandates, increased third-dose vaccination coverage, and increased vaccination of the hesitant will have no real impact on this wave. For all practical purposes, the Omicron wave should be over in the next 4 weeks... Looking beyond mid-February, we expect Omicron to continue circulating and potentially to return later in the year as immunity wanes. We expect new variants will emerge in 2022 and that COVID-19 will continue to be a recurring health problem. However, the notion of a pandemic requiring extraordinary intervention and behavioral change is likely over by early March. Strategies to manage COVID-19 as an endemic disease in the future should include active surveillance, scaled up production and access to effective antivirals, and mask use by the vulnerable if and when another wave occurs."

Not 100% certain, obviously, but a reason for optimism.
