After earning dual Bachelor's Degrees in Political Science and Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Lev L. Spiro attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Master's Degree in Film Production.
His feature short "The Convict", based on the story by James Lee Burke, won over a dozen awards from festivals such as the Canadian International Film Festival, Hiroshima International Film Festival, and Houston Worldfest, and was broadcast on PBS' "Off-Hollywood" season finale, hosted by Jeffery Lyons.
Mr. Spiro made his feature debut in 1997 with the black comedy "Welcome to Planet Earth" starring George Wendt and Shanna Reed, which premiered on Showtime, won a Golden Scroll Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, and was selected for screening at the "Festivale du Film Fantastique" in Brussels.
He went on to write a feature adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Suicide Club", which starred Jonathan Pryce and was selected for screening at the Palm Springs and Locarno Film Festivals.
In the past few years, Mr. Spiro has directed many one hour dramas and half hour single-camera comedies for network television, including "Gilmore Girls", "Dawson's Creek", and many others. Last spring he directed the comedy pilot "Do-Over" for the Littlefield Company and Paramount Network Television, which was picked up for a full 22 episode order by the WB network. Currently he's directing episodes of WB's "Do Over" and "Everwood", NBC's "Hidden Hills", and Fox's "Oliver Beene", and has an upcoming pilot commitment for the WB network. He lives and works in Los Angeles with his wife, writer/producer Melissa Rosenberg, and their dog Zuma, who firmly believes she is Queen of Benedict Canyon.
