The Plot:

Lovely Tromaville, land of hazardous waste and nerdy janitors. Nerdy until they leap from second story windows and land in a drum of toxic waste. (They go together, they just don't GO together - remember back to your high school dating scene, you'll understand.) And so Melvin became the Toxic Avenger, a horribly deformed monster driven to destroy evil. Destroy is an especially apt term, he rips off arms (Then beats people with them.), crushes heads, and jams a mop into the skull of each vanquished criminal. Oh, he falls in love too! With a beautiful, bountiful, blonde, blind, bimbo named Sara. She's cute enough, unfortunately if there's one place she's going to put that cane it's into the closest man's crotch. Lucky for us that ends up being Toxie most of the time, nuclear gonads are nigh invulnerable to whacking. (Going to annoy the Catholic Church with that last quote.) The monster previously known as Melvin has another score to settle, with the jerks responsible for his condition. Bozo and pals enjoy running down people with the car. It's the good old points system, so much for an old lady, so much for a kid, you know the joke. By the way, bike helmets don't help much when somebody really wants you churned into road mush. Melvin's worst enemy is the corrupt mayor and his pack of faithful cronies, he's worried about the "Monster Hero" coming after him. So he manipulates facts, forcing the Governor to call out the National Guard. With a ring of tanks and soldiers surrounding him it's only the kind hearts of Tromaville's citizens which save Toxie, even after he disembowels the mayor. (That was a big man, lots of guts.)

Things I Learned From This Movie:

  • A kid riding a bike is worth 28 points.
  • Jack Daniels looks like fruit punch. (Blasphemy!)
  • Health clubs were the social centers of the 80s.
  • Radioactive waste is green and constantly bubbles.
  • You don't want a radioactive mutant using your nuts as a speed bag.
  • Fast food restaurants have real samurai swords on the wall.
  • Never sit on sauna rocks.
  • Mutants give off steam when aroused.
  • Blind people own at least fifty canes.
  • The same gas tank design was used in Datsuns and Pintos.
  • Men shouldn't wear pink sports coats.
  • Once your liver is out, it's out, no easy way to stuff it back in.

Stuff To Watch For:

  • 9 mins - You are some really sick people...
  • 21 mins - Hmmm, public domain song.
  • 34 mins - Don't be a hero, this is a Troma film! Too late.
  • 40 mins - Hardened criminal sundae.
  • 41 mins - Ouch! (Cane to the testicles.)
  • 58 mins - Jeez woman, shut up!
  • 64 mins - Any reason you're dry cleaning that woman?
  • 71 mins - What sort of bloodhounds are these, Akita/German Shepherds?
  • 73 mins - Nice blue tshirt under your camouflage there.

  • Narrator: "So Melvin the monster hero rid Tromaville of all of it's evil, so the good citizens could live their lives in peace and happiness."

Toxie takes on some criminals in this scene. Why did the one guy's arm rip off, rather than him being flipped over the superjanitor? One thing is certain, I'm not doing the "pull my finger" trick anymore.

Have you ever noticed anything strange about police Chief Himmel's name? Lloyd is a genius! Himmel = Hi + mmel.
Hi being the first two letter's of HItler's name and -mmel being the last four letter's of RoMMEL's name! Just thought I'd point that out!

Bad film that was very fun to watch.  You have to realize the satire to really appreciate it.  It is obvious that the movie was made to seem intentionally corny, and once that is understood, you are able to sit back and enjoy.  One of the very few movies that elicited verbal responses from me, usually sounding something like this; "that was sick" or "I don't believe they [the Producers] did that".

The Toxic Avenger series is my favorite!  I can always count on Troma to provide me with everything I need.  Good movies, great laughs, eye-poping special effects, violence, sexy, blonde, chicks, and awsome acting!
However, I was dissapointed with SGT. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D.  I read about it online before it came out.  I was on the edge of my seat, anticipating destruction and carnage released through Griswold's Kabuki arsenal.  Unfortunately SGT. Kabuki Man N.Y.P.D did not utilize his flying sushi, heat seeking chopsticks, or flying flipflops as much as I wanted him to.  On top of that there wasn't enough random violence.  The only part was in the begining when the little kid gets it. Anyway, I still loved the flick and think it has great potential and endless possibilities for sequels.

This movie is f**king awesome! It has everything you could want from a movie: sex, violence, gratuitous nudity and stomach churning violence.
Good on you Troma!!
My recommendation: watch the Directors Cut to appreciate the head-crushing scenes in full detail.

(Original email address, huh?) Okay, TOXIE RULES! sex! Violence! Blood! Guts! (literally, GUTS!), Green Vomit! TOXIE! This girl i know thinks he's pretty cute, too (Girl? Who am i kidding? If I'm gonna come outta the closet it totally should be for Hideously Deformed Monster Heroes of Superhuman Size and Strength From New Jersey...)

Watch the damn film! Again and again and again and again and then one more time. Then buy the sequels. And every other Troma movie in existence. Then watch them. Again and again. And then wonder why you have no friends, you loser...

People that did'nt like this movie just lack a certain sense of humor, a kind of humor ofund at horror nights at cinemas, this is where I  first saw this flick, laughed my ass of, as did the whole theatre.
And indeed, th bycicle kid is one of my fave scenes.

"What the hell happened to Julie? It makes no sense that her death happens off screen"

In the version they show on Bravo TV and on the unrated DVD it shows that Toxie never killed Julie, he only gave her a very bad haircut.

I actually heard about this movie from a friend and went on this website to see the review.  After that, I saw Toxic Avenger at that friends' house.  I have to say that that movie was the sicket thing ever.  Gory as hell.  The good thing, though, was that it was cheap and fun to watch (I'm into cheap movies for some reason).  The guys at Troma did a creatively good job at making this film a cult classic among the independent film gore lovers. The rating, however, is a little low; this movie should get 5 slimes for being an incredibly crappy-plotted movie.
